KCCA has inked an agreement with the Kingdom of the Netherlands for a 100% grant to the tune of EURO 420,000 (Approximate UGX 1.8Bn) towards a feasibility study to expand the capacity of Kyanja Agriculture Resource Centre through Develop2Build programme.

The the Dutch programme is a Government-to-Government initiative that provides funding for preliminary studies needed for infrastructural projects as well as technical support and capacity building with an aim of creating positive impact on people, the environment and society.

“We are very pleased to be signing this agreement with the Netherlands. It marks an opportunity to turn around house-hold incomes, employment and agricultural technology in Uganda” Musisi said at the Netherlands embassy in Kampala on monday.

The Ambassador, Henk Jan Bakker signed on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

As one of the ways to improve and easy cross border trader between the two states of Uganda and South Sudan, the two governments recently put pen to paper in a single border trader agreement that will now see the two countries have one stop clearing center at Elegu border point.

Signing the pact on behalf of Uganda, the undersecretary foreign affairs ministry Ambassador, Rosette Katungi and her counterpart from South Sudan, Ambassador, Joseph Ayok, state that the agreement will quicken trade facilitation between the two states as now traders will be able to use fewer papers as well as spend lesser time at the border point.

However, the country director, Trade mark East Africa, Moses Sabitti and the acting commissioner customs URA, Magera Stephen say the border at Elegu is the most busiest point in the East African region thus the need to have in place better mechanisms that can facilitate faster movement of goods to easy trade between the countries as this will also enhance competitiveness in the region.

The new Ambassador of France to the United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Mr. Marcel Escure today presented his accreditation letter to the Secretary General of the East African Community Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera as Special Representative of France to the Community.

Amb. Escure replaces Mr. Jacques Champagne de Labriolle whose tour of duty as France’s Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania ended late last year.

In a letter dated 21 November 2011, France’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Mr. Alain Juppe states that H.E. Mr. Marcel Escure’s mission to the EAC will further strengthen the ties between France and the East African Community.

France wishes to support the integration process that your Community has started as well as the rapprochement initiated with the Southern African Development Community and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa,” noted the French Foreign Minister.

The EAC Secretary General Amb. Sezibera hailed the cordial relations that exist between France and the EAC Partner States, and briefed the French envoy on the critical activities that will dominate the integration agenda in the next five years which include consolidation of the EAC Customs Union and establishing a single customs territory; implementation of the provisions of the Common Market Protocol and; conclusion of the Protocol for the Establishment of the East African Monetary Union.

Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Ambassador James Mugume who has been bedridden for a long time has resumed office and immediately praised Ms Rhoda Keisho, a Munyankole babe who has been working in his absentia.

Mugume in a meeting he held today at the ministry’s head offices told staff that Keisho did a very big job when he was sick. Mugume join Uganda’s civil service in 1970 during the reign of Uganda’s filed martial, Iddi Amin Daada.

We are also told that Rhoda has been a closest friend of Ambassador Mugume for a long time and their relationship made many people to believe that that the two could be an item.
