With a few days to the FDC delegate’s conference, latest information from the party indicates that the party does not have enough money for the conference.

Party spokesman, Wafula Oguttu says that the party needs over 250million shillings for the conference.

Wafula says the conference may be shifted from Namboole if the party fails to raise more money.

However Ogutu’s statements come a few days after the electoral chief Dan Mugarura said that the party had set aside 500million shillings for the conference.

The party is expected to replace DrKiizaBesigye as presidents during the conference.

Meanwhile, the three candidates vying for the FDC top seat have today continued with their campaigns.

Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu is in Soroti,NandalaMafaabi is in Kasese while Ekanya is meeting delegates in Kampala

The leader of the opposition People development Party Abedi Bwanika has re-echoed the call for a National Conference to address the pertinent National issues also recently highlighted by the co-ordinator of Security Agencies General David Sejusa.

Bwanika who seem surprised by the letter written by Gen David Sejusa says that the opposition has always been calling for a National Conference to allow all dialogue to avert the possible disaster that may befall this country.

Early this week the media published a letter by Gen David Sejusa criticizing government on a number of issues ranging from impunity, corruption among others.

He said that a meeting by the High Military Command to discuss the pointed out by Gen. Sejusa cannot provide comprehensive solutions to Uganda’s problems adding that it’s only a national Conference that can accord all Ugandans an opportunity to air out their issues that threaten the country’s survival.

The second Biennial Africa Correctional Services Association conference will open in Kampalaon October 2nd, 2012. The conference will be hosted by theUganda prisons service.

The Commissioner General of Uganda Prison Service, Johnson Byabashaija says that the conference will run from October 2 to 5 under the theme, “Enhancing Community Responsive Correctional Service Delivery inAfrica”.

Johnson Byabashaija says that the conference is aimed at addressing a number of challenges in the prisons service. Some of the challenges the prisons service face include HIV prevalence and over congestion in prison cells.

The conference will be attended by some African heads of correctional facilities, leaders of international and regional bodies and non-governmental organisations.

The newly elected mp forButambalaCounty, Muwanga Kivumbi has addressed his first press conference as legislator.
Muwanga Kivumbi was declared MP for Butambala on Wednesday trouncing his main rival Faisal Kikulukunyu.

He told the members of the press at DP headquarters today that his parliamentary victory is a major statement to the President and his NRM political organisation that they need to address the many grievances that have made people hate government officials and their political party.
Muwanga promises to work for the people of Butambala and ensure that they benefit from the taxes they pay.

The ButambalacountyMPseat fell vacant after court nullified the election victory of Kikulukunyu following a petition by Kivumbi, who accused him of voter bribery.

President Museveni is expected to open a week-long commonwealth magistrates and Judges Association Conference in Kampala. The conference starts on Monday. The Republic of Uganda is now the fourth African country to host this conference. Other African countries are Zimbabwe (1994), South Africa (1997) and Malawi (2003).

According to the Uganda government, over 300 delegates have registered to attend this year’s Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association Conference.

The Deputy Judicial Public Relations Officer, Araali Muhiirwa says that the conference will draw participants from the 54 Commonwealth countries. Internal Affairs Minister Hilary Onek says that Uganda is ready to hold the conference.

The First batch of the delegates from England, Canada and Austria is expected to arrive in Uganda on Sunday. The patroness of the commonwealth magistrates and Judges Association is the Queen of England Elizabeth II. The commonwealth magistrates and Judges Association conference is held every three years where the issues of constitutionalism, the rule of law, independence of judiciary and good governance are discussed. The last commonwealth magistrates and Judges Association conference was held in Turks and Caicos in 2009.

Global Contest for Secondary School Students: Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) is a multi-country educational program to introduce students to career opportunities in Travel & Tourism.

The programme is supported by the travel and tourism industry and its leading global brands — including Amadeus, American Express, Hertz, HRG travel agents, Lufthansa, Starwood Hotels and Resorts — and endorsed by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT).

The Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) sponsors two global competitions.

Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) Research Competition & Award: Each year Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) hosts an International Student/Teacher Conference attended by students and their teachers from Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) member countries.

The students previously have competed for the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) Research Award in their home countries.

The winning school teams in each country attend the conference. The conference is sponsored by the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP); its Global Partners.

Student Travel Writing Competition: The essay competition reinforces the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP)’s emphasis on encouraging research and communications skills.

Students compete for national cash prizes of US$300 and two international prizes of US$500.

The competition divides students into two categories: students over 15 years of age and students younger than 15. The competition is sponsored by the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP)’s Global partners.

Women scientists working in the Diaspora are particularly encouraged to apply.

3. Your curriculum vitae.

4. Abstract of the Paper to be presented at the conference or workshop.

5. A budget breakdown of expected expenses.

The Canon Foundation Funds: The Canon Foundation for Scientific Research provides support for scientists and academics from developing countries in the scientific and engineering fields in order to promote technology and knowledge transfer, and improve industrial and social infrastructure and capability.

The Canon Foundation for Scientific Research (CFSR) was established at the start of the new millennium to promote the progress of science and technology in developing countries.

It award grants for research and study projects, equipment and conference attendance to outstanding individuals from developing countries.

The foundation welcomes applications from researchers in the scientific and engineering fields who are working in or native to developing countries.

What is Funded:

  • Travel bursaries for research and conference or symposium attendance: Welcome applications from researchers who would like to attend local or international conferences, symposia and workshops or undertake other postgraduate study.

In most cases, it will meet all or part of travel, accommodation and registration costs.

Also consider offering financial assistance to qualified researchers wishing to further their expertise at an internationally recognised overseas institution.

  • Conference Support

Support international meetings organised and hosted in developing countries, especially by facilitating the attendance of contributors.

  • Small project and Equipment grants

Welcome grant applications from researchers for small projects.

Normally, the grants contribute to part of the full cost of a project and may provide a number of small grants to cover equipment costs and access to academic publications.

Google EMEA Travel and Conference Grants: As part of Google’s ongoing commitment to encouraging women to excel in computing and technology, Google offers EMEA Travel and Conference Grants to encourage more female computer scientists to attend and participate in research conferences.

Award winners will be chosen from the applicant pool to receive:

  • Free registration for the conference
  • 1000 Euros for travel costs

To be eligible for a conference grant candidates must:

  • Be working in or studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or technical field related to the conference subject.
  • Have a strong academic background with demonstrated leadership ability.

The Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) delegates currently in Uganda for an IPU conference have held a closed door meeting with the leaders of Uganda Young Democrats. The meeting left the government puzzled because president Museveni could not imagine IPU officials could hold a closed door meeting in Kampala. The venue for the meeting was Serena Hotel Kampala.

The IPU delegates met UYD leaders including Samuel Muyizzi, the Secretary General of UYD, Kenneth Paul Kakande (UYD chairman), John Mary Sebuwufu (UYD envoy) and Brenda Nabukenya (UYD Secretary for welfare).

The meeting according to sources discussed partnership between UYD and the mother parties of the delegates. It also discussed political situation in Uganda.

UYD has a close working relationship with the political parties of some of the parties of the delegates.
