Job Description

 

To work, under the direction of the Manager, International Events & Corporate Communications to attend to the following tasks;

 

  1. To research and analyse of the feasibility of developing potential conference topics into commercially viable events;
  2. To communicate by phone and email with key industry figures to determine the validity of proposed topic,  sub-themes, timing and location;
  3. To create a comprehensive topic briefing document which among other things will outline:
    • An overview of the topic and its validity as a standalone event;
    • The highlights of  the current issues faced by the industry;
    • To identify potential speakers and resource persons;
    • To identify key issues which will be addressed by the event;
    • To research all possible events covering the proposed topic to analyse potential conflicts in dates or overexposure;
    • To highlight possible sponsors to this event;
    • To plan for a post-conference Internal report, and;
    • To plan for a Rapporteur’s report on the conference that is circulated to attendees.

 

  1. To write the conference programme, invite speakers, liaise with speakers to ensure attendance, organise or assist in the organising of the event, as the case may be and to attend to all matters relating to and/or ancillary to the successful conducting of the event;
  2. Marketing sponsorship opportunities for events of the CTO and supervising the work of sales and marketing staff;
  3. Liaising with  marketing officers to organise event marketing, promotion, publicity, sales and related campaigns;
  4. Liaising with speakers throughout the conference production cycle;
  5. Assisting with direct sales for attendance to prospective delegates and for potential sponsors, when required;
  6. Assist in any logistics planning, pre-event logistics management, as well as on-site and post-event logistics;
  7. Where necessary assist in budgeting, financial and cash management for the events;
  8. Ensure the obtention by CTO of Evaluation Reports by attendees to events and to analyse these reactions, reporting to management, and using such info to influence future events;
  9. Carrying out post-event analysis for CTO Management’s assessment and reports for CTO publications purposes;
  10. Assisting the Manager, International Events and Corporate Communications in arranging conferences and other commercial events of the CTO through managing tasks delegated by the Manager, International Events and Corporate Communications, and;
  11. Undertaking such other duties as directed by the Chief Executive Officer

 

Profile & Qualification

  • Minimum of five (5) years in organising and managing international events and conferences and relevant experience of undertaking marketing and corporate communications work;
  • Excellent knowledge of developments in the global ICT sector & Telecom Industry;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Strong editing skills. (writing samples required);
  • Experience in working within a multicultural and international environment;
  • Ability to use an international network of contacts for commercial purposes;
  • Relevant communications and Web experience;
  • Demonstrable expertise in budgeting and managing  projects to tight deadlines;
  • Expertise in internal and external communication;
  • Strong work ethic and attention to quality and detail;
  • Ability to solve problems and successfully engage with appropriate technical and internal resources;
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects through highly effective organisational skills;
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly and efficiently, and;
  • Willingness to handle cash and report promptly and accurately.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • As a minimum, Graduate Degree in Marketing and Sales or related ICT/Telecom area with at least five (5) years experience;
  • Or five (5) years quantifiably successful conference production experience in commercial environment;
  • Salary scale £22454 to £26909 subject to experience & qualifications;
  • Bonus if payable – up to 10% per annum, and profit share – OTE £30,000.

The Role

To undertake marketing communications activities in the following tasks:-

  • Events and B2B marketing: Designing and implementing  marketing communications plans for conferences, seminars, training and workshops;
  • Corporate communications: Undertake all aspects of press work and media relations, and;
  • Undertake online communications activities on the corporate website.

 

In particular:

Marketing

  • Creating, obtaining necessary approvals and managing marketing budget for each event;
  • Create, maintain and update contact data for the CTO in general and for each individual event;
  • Undertake work on the creation of brochures, flyers, emails and letters;
  • Maintaining events listing in the CTO website;
  • Maintaining dedicated event websites;
  • Researching and signing up media partners, associations and sponsors;
  • Arranging cross marketing deals;
  • Undertaking event advertising and promotion;
  • Undertaking email/fax marketing campaigns and other promotions;
  • Post-event website creation;
  • Post-event marketing of conference documentation;
  • Tracking performances of marketing mediums and re-arranging marketing channels accordingly;
  • Responding to marketing enquiries;
  • Preparing and distributing papers, reports and CTO literature at CTO and other events (e.g. exhibitions and trade shows);
  • Providing communication support at CTO domestic and international events;
  • Undertaking business intelligence work by researching competitor events, and;
  • To develop, collate, operate and maintain events databases of contacts for CTO activities.

 

Communications

  • To assist production of CTO publications, aiming at the consistency of quality and messages and to seek advertising revenue for such publications;
  • To produce and coordinate the production of written and graphical material, press releases and articles about all aspects and work of CTO, especially information regarding ICT developments in CTO member countries or entities;
  • Arrange effective publicity for the CTO in the media of member countries as agreed, and;
  • To collaborate with staff, members and other associates to promote the public profile of the CTO and provide an information point for enquiries about the CTO and its work.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Master’s  Degree in relevant field or five (5) years experience a marketing communications role;
  • Experience of database management;
  • Good oral and written communications skills;
  • Strong affinity for the Telecommunications and ICT sector;
  • Comfortable talking to senior officials from both the public and private sectors, and;
  • A good team player with respect for multi-cultural diversity.

 

Starting salary £22,454 to £26,500 according to experience per annum plus performance-based bonus, commission and profit share – OTE £10,000

The East African Information centre  (EAIC) in Kampala has urged the unemployed Ugandans  to seek for jobs which are available in East Africa  and in other non East African  countries through  its website www.eainfocentre-gov.org

The organising secretary of the East African Information centre Flavia Nawenja told journalists in Kampala that people should forward their CVs on this website and the jobs related to their qualifications are forwarded to them free of charge.

She said that this initiative is a solution to Uganda’s challenge of unemployment since Uganda has the highest unemployment in the sub-Saharan Africa.

T he State of Uganda Population report released by the Population Secretariat 2010 indicted that Uganda’s unemployment rate is at 23% and about 4.37 million people are jobless.

We are currently seeking a senior-level Chief of Party (COP) who will work with Save the Children’s existing country office in Uganda, but will be solely responsible for overall management of the USAID Cooperative Agreement for the anticipated Orphans and Vulnerable Children Program. S/he will provide strategic and operational leadership to develop and implement a successful and integrated multi-sectoral program that builds upon existing USAID/PEPFAR and GOU investment and that will achieve memorable outcomes in the mitigation of the impact of HIV/AIDS on children, families and communities in Uganda. The program will reflect the objectives of the PEPFAR strategy with respect to care and support for orphans and other vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS. The COP will also supervise key program staff, both technical and managerial, and oversee the hiring process of all local personnel as well as serve as the key liaison with Save the Children partners and any local sub-grantees.

Qualified candidates must possess an Advanced degree in international relations, public health, or related field plus 10+ years of field-based experience managing large and complex overseas, multi-partner development programs, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Experience managing large scale USAID-funded project(s) at a senior level; demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with USAID (PEPFAR) policies, rules, regulations, and procedures; and experience in managing large child focused field programs for an international NGO are all critical for success. Demonstrated skills in strategic and program planning with an understanding of HIV/AIDS-related support services, leadership expertise and collaboration with multi-level stakeholders is important. Extensive experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa; with specific work experience in Uganda is desirable.
