Members of Parliament have demanded for allocation of sufficient funds to the sports sector to nurture talent sports sector development . MPs pledged to use their power to allocate more funds to the sports sector even if government fails to allocate much money. Members of parliament are concerned that government promised to give some allowances but this promise was not fulfilled.

MPs say that the sports ministry should be headed by a minister who has excelled in sports. The member of parliament for Otuke county in Lira district Julius Acon blames sports authority for allowing more officials traveling for torments than athletes, adding that the officials also get more money than sports women and men.

While MPs are debating the status of sports in Uganda brought by the MP for Makindye West Allan Sewanyana,
Acon who was a world junior championship runners up  in 1994 in 1500 metres, with emotions says that neglect of sports personalities is demoralizing the persons with talent to give out the best and win medals for the country.

BananasThe Parliamentary Budget Committee chaired by Bulambuli County MP Wamakuyu  Mudimi has rejected the proposal of the Finance committee to appropriate funds for the Presidential Initiatives on Banana industrial development (PIBID). The Chairperson of the finance committee  Robert Kasule Sebunya had been appearing before the Budget committee which is scrutinizing the budget requesting MPs on the budget committee to approve the funds for this initiative to cater for staff payment and other activities.
This is the second time parliament is suspending the funds on the presidential initiatives on Banana Industrial development; Last Financial year 2014/15 the budget committees refused to approve sh10b, which the Government had allocated to the banana initiative in the budget. The committee chaired by Ntenjeru north county’s Amos Lugolobi  noted with strong concern that the patent rights of PIBID are registered in the individual names of the executive director yet the initiative is 100% funded from the taxpayers’ money. The MPs says before allocating another fund all the requirements ranging from administrative issues this should be sorted out before any money is approved.

The Chairperson of Finance Committee also, Kyadondo North MP Robert Kasule Sebunya, says that members of parliament should reconsider their position over this project and approve the fund  to help on the banana industry.

Public accounts committee of parliament have directed ministry of internal affairs officials to produce before the committee the progress and performance report of the 1st phase of the Uganda population data base identification project.

According to the auditor general’s report of 2009/2010 the ministry officials  failed to produce the progress reports even after claiming to be having the performance report.

Members of the committee including Paul Mwiru, Vincent Kyamadidi and Henry Musasizi say that from the progress and performance report one can be able to find out more information about the delay in the project.

The permanent secretary for the ministry of internal affairs Steven Kagoda says that all the reports are with the electoral commission since it was the major implementer of the 1st phase.

He however promised to ensure that the electoral commission hands over the said reports to the committee.
Meanwhile the ministry is still looking for 110 billion shillings for the phase 2 of the project.

Kagoda says that the money will be used in paying off all contractual obligations, procurement of premises and installation of equipments and mass registration of all the citizens.

He however says that phase1 of the project was completed but phase 2 has failed to take off because there are no funds to kick start the process.

The members of the External Security Organisation (ESO) have reported to the statehouse in Kampala that the FDC members in the diaspora and party donors sent money to FDC leadership in Kampala for staging anti government rallies.

But the Police have warned people in FDC who are plotting to hold demonstrations to drop the programme because it is unconstitutional and the police have not been informed.

The Metropolitan Police spokesman Iddi Ibin Ssenkumbi says that the FDC members led by the FDC women’s league Chairperson Ingrid Tulinawe is planning to demonstrate at the City Square one of these days yet they haven’t informed the Police. Ssenkumbi says that demonstrations were banned from City Square and above it all the government already banned the activities of the Activists for Change (A4C).

Senkumbi therefore warns the members of the public against attending A4C rallies because all those found there will be arrested as criminals.
