Health activists and parliament plot more funding for maternal care

Health activists are to meet lawmakers next week to devise mechanisms of how to drastically reduce infant and maternal mortality.

The planned meeting comes at a time when more women and children continue to die due to preventable deaths.

The coordinator child health now campaign at World Vision Richard Kintu says they want policy makers to increase their involvement and support in reducing infant and maternal health.

Kintu adds that they also want to push parliament to continue with the demanding more resources for the health sector if unnecessary deaths are to be prevented.

The meeting is being spearheaded by World Vision and is aimed at marking the Child health now global week of action.

Available statistics from ministry of health places infant mortality at 54deaths per 1000 live births while maternal Mortality rate stands at 310 deaths per 100,000 live births annually.
