State prosecutors have resolved to suspend their sit down strike for a period of 90 days, to allow government deliver on its promises.

Under their body Uganda Association of Prosecutors, the lawyers laid down their tools last week until government improves their salaries.

It’s against this background that Government promised to increase their pay with the lowest officer set to earn 3.5 million shillings.

In an extra general assembly held on Tuesday at Imperial Royale Hotel, 171, which saw a majority of them  voting to suspend the strike, whereas 12 voted to maintain the industrial action.

Uganda ElectionsThe Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) has    all legible voters not to boycott the 2016 polls and vote for the leaders of their choice.
Speaking at the launch of the new voter campaign dubbed Votability, at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala the Executive Director Foundation for Human Rights Initiative who doubles as the head CEDDU Livingstone Ssewanyana asked Ugandans to always participate in all electoral processes give that such processes shape the nation’s destiny.
The chairperson of the Parliamentary Commitee on Human rights who is also the Mitooma District Woman Member of Parliment Jovah Kamateka called on all Ugandans to respect the electoral rules and guidelines if the process is to be fair and democratic.
The head of voter education in the Electoral Commission, Charles Mashate cautioned NGOs  that will be accredited to oversee the election process not to overstep their mandate but instead work as per the agreed upon rules of monitoring elections.

IMG_4226Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Children wants government to formulate an Early Childhood Development and Nutrition policy to guide on children learning and feeding in the country.

The forum while at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala and in meeting organized by UNICEF resolved to engage the government concerning this matter saying these policies are needed urgently.

The Members of the forum who include the Shadow Minister for Children and Youth Bernard Atiku, Woman Member of Parliament Kyegegwa Flavia Kabahenda, Hanifa Kawooya and Latif Sebagala said the government should start budgeting for the Early Childhood Development Programme in the next financial year.

The legislators said the country needs infrastructure, child care givers, instructors and a curriculum in place as well as a robust policy to achieve the purpose of Early Childhood Development.

Kabahenda said the Office of the Prime Minister should expedite the formulation of Early childhood Development and Nutrition policy and bring it to parliament for approval.

She said that due to lack of a nutrition policy many children have become victims of Malnutrition and many have lost lives which necessitates that the government intervenes and creates guidelines for feeding the children.
