Today we bring to you how you may handle nose bleeding in babies (first aid). As soon as a nose bleed begins, have the child sit up while firmly exerting pressure on the nose by pinching the lower, soft part of the nose between the thumb and forefinger for about 10 minutes.
Alternatively wet a wad of cotton with hydrogen peroxide or petroleum jelly and pack it in the nose, leaving part of it outside.
Tell the child to breath through the mouth and discourage them from playing any rough games for a couple of hours.
It is discouraged to let the child lay down because this increase blood pressure in the head, therefore sending more blood to the nose and making nose bleed harder to stop. A side, blood may run down the child’s throat and may irritate the stomach, causing vomiting.

The minister of education and sports ms Jessica Alupo presided over the release of S6 exams which the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) released on Tuesday in Uganda’s capital city Kampala.

According to the 2012 S6 examination results released, there was an increase in last year’s performance compared to the year 2011. There were also a higher percentage of S6 candidates who qualified for a certificate after scoring at least two principal passes.

The S6 examination results showed that female candidates out performed males in the two-principal pass achievement. The best done subjects were History, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Islam/Divinity and Geography.

The results of 404 candidates from Nagalama Islamic School, Gomba Global College and Lugogo KCC centre among others were withheld over exam malpractice. As usual, the best performing schools in S6 exams were in Kampala (with 3,114 candidates passing with four principal passes,) Wakiso came second with 2, 902,  Mukono third with 913 and Masaka with 477. The level at which criminals forms new tricks to steal peoples’ homes and cars increase each day that passes. The formation Police have got indicates that there is a syndicate of criminals selling beautiful key holders at Petrol Stations around Kampala and major trading centres.

We are told that sometimes the criminals parade themselves as sales representatives or promoters giving out free key holders to drivers and people they suspect to be rich even if that person is moving on foot.

Police now advise people not to buy or accept these key holders no matter how beautiful they may look. It is said that these key holders have inbuilt tracking device chip which allows them to track someone to his/her home or wherever his/her car is packed.

These key holders the suspected criminals vend are very beautiful to resist. But there is fear that accepting same may endanger your life.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics has registered a slight increase in Inflation for the first time in several months.

The latest figures put the inflation rate at 4.9 percent up from 4.5 percent in October 2012.

The Bureau blames the increase on the hike in food prices registering an increase of 7.5 percent compared to 4.4 percent.

For energy and fuel utilities it rose to 13.8 percent from 12.8 percent in the month ending November.

This upward trend reverts Bank of Uganda’s efforts to reduce inflation.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics Director for Macro Economics Chris Mukiza explains the implication of such a development.

Uganda is to partner with the other East African countries and form one regional Tourism market.

This comes as Lonley planet, a travel magazine in the world ranked Uganda the number one Tourism destination for the year 2012.

Addressing journalists, the minister for tourism wildlife and Antiquities Maria Mutagamba says a master plan has already been developed to boost the tourism sector in the region.

She however cautions Ugandans to embrace competitiveness in order for Uganda to benefit from this partnership.

She also lauds the Uganda Wild Life authority for the increase in the number of gorillas in Bwindi impenetrable national park.

The current gorilla census shows an increase in number of gorillas to 480 from the previous 340 counted during the 2006 census.

Gorilla tourism contributes 60% of the total tourism revenue and about 9% of the country’s total revenue.

Families in Busoga region have been urged to maintain cleanliness in their homes if they are to avoid being affected by jiggers.

The call was made by bunya east mp waira Kyewalabye Majegere while expressing concern over the increase of the scourge of jiggers among the population in the areas of Busoga.

Majegere says that it not necessarily needs someone to be rich in order to be clean but the attitude of an individual.

He says that people should try to use traditional means of controlling dust in their houses and schools like the use of cow dung which is cheap rather than waiting for cement which cannot be managed by a poor person.

He says that families and schools should make it a routine and smear their houses once in a week as a way of creating a clean environment in their homes.
