Kabaka Edward Muteesa II, the president of the post Colonial Uganda escaped narrowly and fled into exile, after three years of what Obote openly called a puppet government. The attack sparked discontent among majority Baganda and later spurred 1970 coup by army chief Idi Amin against President Obote.

Buganda Kingdom attorney general David Mpanga said commemoration seeks to relay the importance of addressing political challenges with political responses. Mpanga said some of the issues that sparked the Kabaka Crisis have not been answered up to date.

“Political questions should be answered with political answers acceptable democratically. Legal questions should also be answered in court. When Milton Obote attacked Muteesa II, there was power struggle of what was Kabaka’s role politically and undefined sharing of financial resources which have not been resolved to date,” Mpanga said.

“The attack on the Lubiri was answering a political question militarily and 50 years later, we still see political and legal questions being answered militarily,” Mpanga observed.

Buganda deputy prime minister Emmanuel Sendawula said the annual celebrations were ‘ordered’ by Kabaka Ronald Mutebi to remind the young generation of the unfortunate incident that happened to Buganda leaving indelible marks.

Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga led a brief prayer attended by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala while Msgr Karoli Kimbowa made a paper presentation of the attack.

Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has called for an extra ordinary meeting over leadership wrangles surrounding the management of Milton Obote Foundation.

According to sources, the meeting has been influenced by the family members of late Milton Obote. We are reliably informed that the meeting will take place on 17^th April 2012 on the 11^th floor of Uganda house in Kampala starting at 9am.

The widow of Milton Obote, Miria Obote has confirmed the meeting. Others who have confirmed the meeting are Okello Okello, John Okumu, Prof. Patrick Rubaihayo, Eng. Chris Opoka, Nelson Ofwono, BNI Barungi, Prof. Faustino, Orach Meza, Chris Opoka Okumu, Hon. James Akena, Robert Elagot and Moses Apiliga.

The members of Uganda Peoples Congress would even throw pieces of paper in his room advising the MP to save part of the millions MPs receive in Parliament and buy own home.

The Director of Milton Obote Foundation, CD Mindra we hear even threatened to evict Akena over failure to buy his own home. The good news is that the MP has paid his last installment on one of the houses in Kakungulu Estates near Lutembe Beach, in Entebbe sub district.

The members of Uganda Peoples Congress who preferred anonymity told our informer that Akena has now become a respectable man.

Today in history! It was like today when the soldiers under the Milton Obote II regime reportedly split pregnant women’s bellies.

The LC5 chairperson of Luweero district, Hajji Abdul Nadduli recalls that during that time some people had their hands and lips cut.

He also recalls that some soldiers in Obote II regime would rape women and go away without being charged.

Nadduli likens the acts of Obote’s soldiers with those of LRA rebels. He says that LRA soldiers reportedly rapped women, kidnapped people and displaced millions of others.

Sources in government have told us that the ministers behind the idea of relocating the capital city to Nakasongola have already sold the idea to president Museveni who also seems to be supportive of the idea.

We are told some of the ministers behind the idea of relocating the capital city are Justice Minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire and state minister for transport Stephen Cheborot.

There are also proposals that the capital should be relocated to Mbarara as the late former president of Uganda Milton Obote had planned in the past. The ministers behind the proposal argue that relocating the capital city will decongest Kampala.

The acerbic Mirundi says that it would be a fraud if Buganda ever gets full federal status it demands.

Mirundi alleges that granting full federal status to Buganda is like preparing for a repeat of the 1966 Buganda crisis. The former president Milton Obote suddenly abolished kingdoms only to be restored by Yoweri Museveni.

He says under federalism Buganda has to become an independent state which other tribes in the country would like to hate to hear.

We have been told that the family members converged at their home in Kololo last evening to celebrate the 11^th birthday of Puli Akena, the second born daughter of Jimmy Akena. Jimmy Akena is a son to Milton Obote and he is currently the MP for Lira Municipality . Our reporters who were also invited for the function report that the event started at around 3pm till late.

Akena served his guests with all tribes of beers and sodas plus some meat. There were no political speeches made. Akena says it would be improper to turn a birthday party into a political rally.

 Muntu told this informer that by law former army commanders receive cars, house and they remain receiving their salaries until they die. But when he finished his work as army commander president Museveni as the commander in chief of UPDF gave him a 4wd vehicle and he refused to take it. Muntu says that he told the people who had brought him the car to go back and tell Museveni that ‘am (Muntu) done.’

The former army commander also says that one day Museveni called and told him that he was going to promote him to general and become defence minister. “I told him I’m done. One day we were in Kyankwanzi and I stood and challenged the president on third term. I told him that we went to the bush to fight over staying in power.” he recalls.

 Muntu goes ahead: “When I was in the bush, formerUgandapresident Milton Obote looked after my family. While in the bush, I was shot twice and Obote met my bill. When I recovered he bought me a brand new benz. I packed it at statehouse and went back to the bush. I am over strict and whenever I see a mistake I have to tell it so Uganda needs people like me to be presidents,” he says.

Some of the officials on Otunnu’s cabinet who have reportedly deserted the UPC secretariat include Maj. Kisembo from Bunyoro, Cyprian Bamwoze Deputy Secretary General of UPC, Emmanuel Ofumbi, Rebecca Eryemu, and Lawyer Peter Walubiri among others.

The members of Otunnu’s cabinet are also angry that recently Otunnu reportedly saw them coming and locked himself inside his office perhaps because he did not want to talk to them. A source in UPC told us that the members of UPC on seeing this they felt disrespected and they nearly kicked his door.

On the same day, they called Otunnu to meet them in the board room such that they iron out their differences and Otunnu reportedly declined to do so. The party members have also reportedly written a letter to the financial controller of Milton Obote Foundation, CD Mindra requesting him to stop paying Otunnu’s monthly house rent of 1.8 million shillings until their party president reconciles with them. If Mindra honours the request of Otunnu’s cabinet, it will mean that the former UN diplomat will now be homeless because we also hear that Otunnu was recently chassed from the boy’s quarter of one of the UPC members, David Opul over late payment of rent. Opul is a son to late Oyite Ojok.

Our informers got the surprise of the day yesterday when Akena, who is also the Lira Municipality MP, arrived atUgandaparliament riding a bicycle.

Akena packed his bicycle and entered the parliamentary chambers. The policemen outside the parliamentary building were overheard wondering why Akena has made it a habit of riding a bicycle to parliament.

We also kept wondering whether this is the way Akena is ‘walking to work’ a programme which the opposition politicians created in April this year.
