Milton Turyasima, Assistant commissioner employment service, from ministry of gender labour and social development, and the Presidential adviser on Ugandans working in the diaspora Florence Kilemerwa are calling for a smooth conclusion to the consultations into the started negotiations between the Uganda and Dubai governments but maintain that no labour company will be allowed to export any service to UAE until a final conclusion is reached on this matter.

In a meeting held between the companies and the government, the officials stated that it will also do thorough scrutiny among the companies that export labour to Dubai since some companies are engaged in human trafficking which has turned Ugandan citizens in Dubai into slaves

Uganda currently has over 600 citizens working in the united Arab emirates remitting over USD.32M to Uganda annually from UAE only.

Shell Uganda is now on sale. We have been told that Shell is engaging into negotiations with companies that have interests in buying its shares in Uganda. According to sources, some of the companies which have expressed interests in buying shell Uganda’s interests include Total Uganda and Caltex petrol company.

However Shell Uganda is planning to sell off its capital to another company without the knowledge of its employees. And this promoted the workers at Shell Uganda to petition the commercial court in Kampala. The plaintiffs asked the court to halt the intended sell until the management of Shell assures its employees that their interests would be catered for during the sale.

The court assistant registrar Eudes Keiterima after receiving the petition of the workers has halted the sale until further notice.
