Memphis Depay demands respect from Lyon

Former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has gone on a staggering rant demanding respect from Lyon after another controversial weekend.

Depay 24, has seemingly revived his once-promising career that came to a relative halt during a failed stint at Old Trafford.

Since arriving in France in a cut-price £14m deal, the Netherlands forward has scored 31 goals and registered 29 assists in 82 games but has lashed out at the club and media for what he deems as a ‘lack of respect’ over his ability.

The comments were made straight after playing a starring cameo role as a second-half substitute to overturn a 1-0 deficit, with a goal and an assist in the 2-1 league triumph over Angers.

“I’m sick of hearing every time that I changed the match,” Depay said, as quoted by ESPN. I still don’t feel like a respected player.”

Memphis Depay scored a stunning goal for Lyon against Angers

“I get the job done every time, I’m mentally strong. I have to accept the coach’s decisions.”

“I’m a little disappointed, I think I deserve more respect. I deserve better than that and I should play every game.”

The positive reaction was in stark contrast to Depay’s behaviour before the game at the Stade Raymond Kopa as the former PSV star stayed on the team bus while his teammates headed into the ground.

And he sat on a matchball while the rest of the squad warmed up before the game.

1000 Passengers left stranded as Brussels baggage handlers go to strike

According to the airport spokeswoman, Nathalie Pierard, 300 travellers spent Thursday night at Brussels-Zaventem airport.

She confirmed that the strike led to the termination of 100 departing and arriving flights mainly at Ryanair.

“Friday is one of the busiest days of the autumn. A total of 47,000 passengers are due to leave today,” Pierard said.

The strike comes at the time when Belgium is starting school holidays and the end of Netherlands holidays.

Baggage handlers were demanding for a higher pay.

According to Fouad Bougrine of the liberal trade union, the staff has been complaining for months.

“Failure to meet previously made agreements by the management in combination with the high workload, not respecting breaks, … have the bucket.

International Development Studies Scholarship in netherlands

International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is providing financial support to students through its two fund i.e. ISS Scholarship Fund for Excellent Students and ISS Hardship Fund. Both fund are open for international and dutch students for pursuing MA program in Development Studies. ISS Scholarship Fund is awarding a total of 20 scholarships covering 40% of the tuition fee while ISS Hardship Fund provide a fee discount of up to 30% of the tuition fee. Huygens Scholarship Programme – Netherlands: The Huygens Scholarship Programme is open to students from all countries of the world.

It is aimed at talented students who want to study in Netherlands in the final phase of their bachelor’s studies or during their master’s studies.

Study can include research and/or practical training.

The Dutch Minister for Education, Culture and Science has made four million euros available for international students coming to the Netherlands under the HSP Huygens programme.

There is no fixed number of available scholarships, but the actual number is determined by the total cost of the variable components of the scholarships.

Scholarships are awarded for a period of no less than six months and no more than 24 months.

They include the following components:

a monthly allowance of €900 euros (this includes a standard contribution towards healthcare insurance).
visa fees (standard contribution)
the full cost of tuition fees
a one-off payment towards international travel costs (standard contribution based on country of origin).
If you are already a graduate, you must have graduated less than two years ago. Your study in the Netherlands should be in the final phase of your bachelor’s studies or during your master’s studies.

Apply for MSc in Public Health Scholarships in Netherlands

MSc in Public Health Scholarships: Approximately 30 full MSc in Public Health Scholarships are made available by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the M.Sc. programme in Public Health as offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences of Maastricht University in cooperation with the Netherlands School of Public and Occupational Health (Amsterdam).

Coverage of the MTEC Scholarship

The MTEC scholarship covers tuition fee, study materials, housing, subsistence, travel to and from the home country, a personal development programme (including Action Learning) and a social programme.

Who May Apply For an MTEC Scholarship?

The MTEC scholarships are intended for both promising students and public health professionals, that is, those who have completed a bachelor degree in public health, the health sciences or an associated domain and have started their career in a relevant field of work.

Preconditions

The MTEC scholarships are meant for students and residents of the developing countries who completed their BSc with flying colours and who satisfy the criteria for admission to the MSc Public Health programme as offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Maastricht University.

Public health professionals are required to submit proof of their employee to study for at least 10 months abroad and be issued with a guarantee that they can take up their position upon return.

Prospective students need to have completed a bachelor degree in public health, the health sciences or an associated domain, reside in the relevant states at the time of application, have a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based test; or 550 on the paper-based test, or a satisfactory score on a similar test, for example, at least 6.5 on an IELTS test and not be older than 35 years.

Application

Candidates should apply through the website of EVD/CROSS (www.cross-agency.nl ) and consecutively send their printed application form to the Royal Netherlands Embassy in their country.

Furthermore, applicants who want to be considered for a MTEC scholarship have to go through the regular admission procedure of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Maastricht University.

Applicants who have already been admitted to the M.Sc. Public Health programme by the Board of Admissions of the Faculty of Health Sciences, can directly apply for an MTEC scholarship by using the application form which is available at the website of EVD/CROSS.

Note

Applications for admission each academic year should be sent before the 1st of April of each year.

Note: In Africa, only students from Morocco are eligible for this scholarship.

Science@Leuven Scholarship – Netherlands: The Faculty of Science of the KU Leuven and its Alumni Association Science@Leuven Scholarship are proud to announce their initiative: The Science@Leuven Scholarship!Motivated and talented international students, interested in participating in an international master programme of the Faculty of Science of the KU Leuven are invited to apply for a scholarship.

Amount of Scholarship

The amount of the scholarship can be up to 8.000 Euro for 1 year. The Board of the Science [at] Leuven Fund will decide exactly how much a scholarship will be.

The scholarship will always cover the tuition fee for 1 year, the insurance and a basic health insurance coverage. The amount awarded for living expenses can vary.

Eric Bleumink Fund Scholarship: The Eric Bleumink Fund awards scholarships to talented students and young researchers from developing countries.

The scholarships enable the students to further develop as individuals and to make important contributions to the development of their own countries.

The Eric Bleumink Fund Scholarship is for Master and PhD studies at the University of Groningen – Netherlands or a university in the developing country or one of its neighbouring countries

Part of the study programme has to take place at the University of Groningen.

Level of Study: Masters or PhD in any subject

Grant award period

The grant is usually awarded for a maximum of 2 years for a Master’s degree programme, and a maximum of 4 years for a PhD. For PhD, part of the research should be conducted in the home country and part in Groningen.

Value and purpose of grant

The grant covers the tuition fees plus the costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance.

It also covers expenses incurred in travelling to and from the Netherlands for PhD candidates for a maximum of 4 times.

The journeys to the Netherlands and back home are included in the scholarship grant.

Holders are entitled to a living allowance of Euro 735 per month for food and accommodation.

In the case of a short stay in the Netherlands, the University of Groningen will make lodging arrangements for this period.

Allowances are paid in a monthly advance at the beginning of the month.

The Africa Thesis Award: Are you interested in Africa and have you written your Masters thesis on an African-related subject?

The African Studies Centre (ASC), the Netherlands institute for Southern Africa (NiZA) and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) are offering you the chance to win €4000 in The Africa Thesis Award.

The award aims to encourage student research and writing on Africa and to promote the study of African cultures and societies.

It is presented annually to a student whose Masters thesis has been completed on the basis of research conducted on Africa.

The award consists of a prize of €1000 for the winning thesis and an additional €3000 for the writing of a PhD proposal or for fieldwork to update the original data for a wider audience.

The winning thesis will be published in the ASC Research Report Series and a summary of the work will be proposed to a CODESRIA journal.

Award Application Eligibility Criteria:

Any final-year student who has completed his/her Masters thesis with distinction at a university in Africa or the Netherlands can apply.

The thesis has to be based on independent empirical research related to Africa.
