One of the political activists of Uganda’s oldest opposition party, the Democratic Party (DP), Rogers Ssegujja has gone missing fearing arrest over alleged linkages with rebel groups and opposition walk to walk protests in Kampala, the party has announced. The spokesperson of DP, Kenneth Paul Kakande told DP supporters in Buikwe on Saturday that Segujja has been a senior party activist operating in Kampala and other districts of Buganda region.

Kakande says that DP is not sure whether its cadre went to exile or he was abducted by president Museveni’s intelligence networks. The DP party spokesman says that Ssegujja’s whereabouts are still unknown to the DP members and the party’s youth desk in particular. Kakande says that Segujja’s relatives informed DP that the security operatives are threatening them too with arrest if they don’t produce Ssegujja.

Segujja, joined opposition in 2006 and his campaign strategies reportedly gave the ruling government some hard time in 2006, and 2011 presidential elections. Kakande says that Segujja was one of the key body guards of the DP presidential candidate in 2011 presidential polls, Norbert Mao. Kakande urged the central government to stop witch-hunting DP supporters since they are also Ugandans like others. Kakande further claims that DP has lost so many supporters who run to exile over fear of being imprisoned and or killed by the state agents.

Reports of spies having penetrated into Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have tornUganda’s main opposition party into several factions, Walakira Nyanzi reports.

The members of FDC are now divided into tribal factions with the northerners accusing the Baganda and Banyankole of being spies in FDC while the Baganda are accusing their counterparts from Rukingiri (Bakiga) of being spies.

One of the FDC activists in FDC Kampala office, Janny Nakasolya was over heard yesterday quarreling with her colleagues in the party that she is tired of being branded a spy. Nakasolya says that when FDC leaders from Rukungiri organise parties and they invite RDCs orUgandagovernment ministers as guest of honour, no one calls them spies but when the party supporters in Buganda and northern Uganda do the same the party president Col. Kiiza Besigye and his closest cohorts in the party calls them spies.

Another FDC activist, Farida Nakabugo says that when recently Nakasolya visited the former Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya she was branded a spy yet there are many FDC leaders who secretly meat state officials at night and they are not called spies.

Recently the FDC leadership inKampalasuspended the party chairperson ofKampala, Livingstone Kizito on allegations that he and the woman MP forKampala, Nabilah Sempala ‘sell’ the party youth to statehouse. Both Nabilah and Kizito deny the allegations against them.

The FDC official in charge of the youth inBuganda, Sheikh Ibrahim Kasozi says that the problem with some FDC members is that when a lower party cadre gets known in government circles that person automatically becomes a spy but when a senior FDC official befriends the state that relationship becomes normal.

He explains that this is the reason why most FDC youth inBugandasupports Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu instead of Besigye because Muntu doesn’t believe in reports of spies. Kasozi says that Muntu has been telling them that even spies have a right to be FDC members.

It looks like DP President Norbert Mao is ready to give a try of presidential campaigns in the next general elections. He told the people of Masaka Municipality over the weekend that he will not mistreat Baganda or expel Banyarwanda living in Uganda when he comes to power.

Mao says that although he comes from northern Uganda , he can lead the country and he has the principles of being a good leader.

The DP head tells the party supporters in Masaka that NRM supporters and cadres have been spreading rumours that Mao will mistreat Baganda and expel Banywaranda when DP takes over power.

However, Mao promised that DP will get ride of all the ‘thieves’ if it happens to takeover power after 2016 general elections.

It is hard to believe that an opposition MP can be accused by her own party of selling the party supporters to the ruling NRM. The FDC is accusing Kampala woman MP, Nabilah Sempala of colluding with the FDC Kampala chairperson, Livingstone Kizito to persuade some FDC youth to defect to the ruling party.

A source in FDC told this reporter that Nabilah and Kizito last month took a group of about 17 youth to president Museveni’s office in Nakasero, Kampala . It is said that Nabilah and Kizito are NRM sympathizers in FDC.

As we talk now the party has already swung into action and it has suspended Kizito from the post of FDC Kampala chairman, a decision Kizito protests.

Nabilah however tells pals that the allegations against her are false and says that whoever has the information must produce evidence.
