Melyvn Lorenzen, Werderbremen striker has not yet decided his commitment with Uganda

The 21-year-old will not feature in Africa Cup of Nations qualification match when Botswana will take over Uganda Cranes on Saturday June 4, 2016.

“Decision time [for Lorenzen] will be after the match against Botswana,” Uganda FA communications manager Ahmed Hussein said.

He impressed for Uganda Cranes in a 2-0 defeat friendly match played with Zimbabwe  at Rufaro stadium in Harare on Tuesday.

Lorenzen was born in London and qualifies to play for both Uganda and German through his father and mother respectively.

Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic praised the contribution Lorenzen had made during his time with the squad.

“We shall definitely miss the extra impetus he would have brought to the team as we saw in the friendly match against Zimbabwe,” the coach said.

“So for now we shall concentrate on the able players we have in the team to accomplish our mission.”

The coach will be worried about the fitness of striker Faruku Miya, who plays in Belgium for Standard Liege, after he missed the loss to Zimbabwe with concussion.

The Cranes will also be without US-based midfielder Mike Azira, who has chosen not to join the squad stating due to fatigue after a busy MLS season with Colorado Rapids.

Moses Oloya also misses out having stayed in Vietnam in order to recover from injury.

Uganda are level on seven points with Burkina Faso in Group D, but the Cranes are second on the table because the Stallions have the better head-to-head record between two.

The NRM members of parliament have expressed divergent views over the ongoing NRM caucus meeting.

This followed reports that among things to be discussed were the Dura Cement report tabled before parliament last week.

Some members of parliament have expressed fears that this caucus meeting could be aimed at protecting the people implicated in the report.

The meeting called by the president at State house Entebbe is seen as an attempt by the party leadership to agree on a common position before the Bill is brought to parliament this week to avoid a repeat of the chaos that erupted during the previous debates.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and Stephen Tashobya told journalists at parliament that it is wrong for the party to call MPs to take a position on a matter which some MPs had already decided on in the committee stages.

The caucus members are also expected to discuss the Dura Cement Report.

This comes at a time when MPs are expected to begin debate on the highly-billed report about the cancellation of a 43.5bn mining lease.

Forum for Democratic change general secretary Alice Alaso has scoffed at those calling for her resignation.

Alaso says she cannot step down until leaders in the Mafabi Camp do the same.

She advises them to submit to the commission of inquiry set up to investigate the queries relating to the recent party presidential election instead of attacking her.

The conflicts in the party stem from the party elections last year that saw Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu replace Dr. Kiiza Besigye as party leader.

Muntu faced stiff competition from the leader of opposition, Nandala Mafaabi whose supporters have up to now not come to terms with the outcome.

One of the political activists of Uganda’s oldest opposition party, the Democratic Party (DP), Rogers Ssegujja has gone missing fearing arrest over alleged linkages with rebel groups and opposition walk to walk protests in Kampala, the party has announced. The spokesperson of DP, Kenneth Paul Kakande told DP supporters in Buikwe on Saturday that Segujja has been a senior party activist operating in Kampala and other districts of Buganda region.

Kakande says that DP is not sure whether its cadre went to exile or he was abducted by president Museveni’s intelligence networks. The DP party spokesman says that Ssegujja’s whereabouts are still unknown to the DP members and the party’s youth desk in particular. Kakande says that Segujja’s relatives informed DP that the security operatives are threatening them too with arrest if they don’t produce Ssegujja.

Segujja, joined opposition in 2006 and his campaign strategies reportedly gave the ruling government some hard time in 2006, and 2011 presidential elections. Kakande says that Segujja was one of the key body guards of the DP presidential candidate in 2011 presidential polls, Norbert Mao. Kakande urged the central government to stop witch-hunting DP supporters since they are also Ugandans like others. Kakande further claims that DP has lost so many supporters who run to exile over fear of being imprisoned and or killed by the state agents.

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu now fears to lose his post in the party. This follows last Sunday’s announcement by the FDC committee investigating complaints related to last year’s party presidential elections that it will start its inquiries into the matter on February 13.

The Budadiri west MP (FDC), Nandala Mafabi and his fellow MP for Tororo County, Geoffrey Ekanya filed separate petitions with the FDC top leadership over the conduct of the November 22 FDC internal elections which Gen. Muntu won.

The committee investigating electoral malpractice in FDC is led by Ladislaus Rwakafuzi, a prominent Kampala based lawyer. The committee was inaugurated last week by Mugisha Muntu in his capacity as the FDC party president to conduct inquiries within 30 days before submitting its report to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of FDC. The committee secretary is Peter Sempala. According to the sources in FDC head offices in Najjanakumbi, the first session of the committee will involve the formal presentation of petitions to the committee members.

The committee will convene at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi on Kampala- Entebbe road. Sources told us that Nandala’s petition claims that the FDC Secretary General, Ms Alice Alaso, the head of the FDC Electoral Commission, Dan Mugarura, the current FDC president, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu and the FDC Deputy Finance Fecretary, Ms Anita Among rigged FDC party presidential polls in favour of the current party president.

MPs Barnabas Tinkasimire and Wilfred Niwagaba say that they have not committed any offense and have only criticized the party to put across what their voters want.

Niwagaba says that he has already received a letter from the party highlighting two charges related to the oil and budget debates.

He says that if summons are issued against him, he will either choose to ignore them or join his colleagues in pursuing the matter in courts of law.

NRM party members sitting in Kyankwanzi have already taken a stand to have the MPs disciplined for going against party positions on crucial matters.
