Uganda has received permission to translate and dub the film Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai into Acholi. Ugandans are looking for those who wish to help translate or be voice actors.

Ugandans are further informed that if there are those people who wish the film to be translated into another dialect like Luganda, Lusoga, french, German, Spanish and Arabic … and are willing to help with that dialect they should contact solidarity Uganda.

The film gives inspiration to East African environmental movements, social change, civil disobedience, and political reform and can be screened in communities throughout Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya and South Sudan particularly those people/communities most affected by land grabs, violent repression…

The minister of education and sports ms Jessica Alupo presided over the release of S6 exams which the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) released on Tuesday in Uganda’s capital city Kampala.

According to the 2012 S6 examination results released, there was an increase in last year’s performance compared to the year 2011. There were also a higher percentage of S6 candidates who qualified for a certificate after scoring at least two principal passes.

The S6 examination results showed that female candidates out performed males in the two-principal pass achievement. The best done subjects were History, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Islam/Divinity and Geography.

The results of 404 candidates from Nagalama Islamic School, Gomba Global College and Lugogo KCC centre among others were withheld over exam malpractice. As usual, the best performing schools in S6 exams were in Kampala (with 3,114 candidates passing with four principal passes,) Wakiso came second with 2, 902,  Mukono third with 913 and Masaka with 477. The names of the 715 S6 candidates who failed shall be published later if we happen to get permission from UNEB.

The public order management bill has been widely criticised by members of the public with some politicians terming it as “a disaster to Ugandans and an infringement on the freedom of speech and after speech.”

After reading through the bill, the president of the Democratic Party, Norbert Mao got no kind words for it and he says that if this bill is passed into law Ugandans will be completely gagged.

The bill grants the inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Minister for internal affairs wide discretionary and unjustifiable powers over the management of public meetings. The bill places numerous extensive and impractical obligations on the organisers of public meetings, which are impossible to satisfy, and seeks not to regulate the conduct of public meetings but extend to regulate the content of the discussion of issues at such meetings, in contravention of the right to freedom of speech.

There is a provision in this bill which mandates the organizer of the meeting to write to the Inspector General of Police 5 days before the meeting/party/function.

This clause above rally doesn’t look at the miscellaneous circumstances like death which happen any time and people have to assemble. The bill provides that even 3 people gathering one has to first inform the Inspector General of police. If you have visitors home you inform the police. The critics anticipate that the government is about to regulate how people sleep in bed.

The members of opposition are complaining that the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has created a ‘stone throwing group’ with a purpose of discrediting the rallies of action for change (A4C).

The coordinator of A4C Mathias Mpuuga says that the group is planted in opposition to throw stones at the police such that the force gets a chance to ban the A4C rallies.

The police last week warned to ban A4C rallies on grounds that the leaders of A4C have failed to control their members from being violent.

The Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura last week warned A4C to stop holding rallies without police permission. However Mathias Mpuuga says the government created the stone throwing group to discredit opposition.

Mpuuga says that the government and the Police own these stone-throwing men who disguise as opposition activists and throw stones at police and innocent citizens.

The Ugandan law provides that for any person to change his or her name, that person must first get permission from the court.

But this was not the case with Birowoozo singer, Ms Iryn Namubiru who recently won the PAM awards trophies in Kampala.

We have been reliably informed that Iryn Namubiru has changed her name to Iryn Namubiru Morel after her hubby Frank Morel.

The singer has even started using her new name on social networks like face book, youtube etc. We have also heard that Mr. Morel is currently in deep love with Iryn Namubiru Morel than ever before.
