Interdicted former Principal Accountant in the Prime minister’s Office, Geoffrey Kazinda has been denied bail and instead committed to the High Court for trial.

The Anti Corruption Court Chief Magistrate, Irene Akankwasa sent him back on remand to Luzira Prison on grounds that he is still being investigated over various cases.

She concurred with the prosecution that there are a lot of documents; some of which are to be recovered from his residence, and releasing him would interfere with investigations.

Kazinda now faces nine more counts including Forgery, Abuse of Office and unlawful possession of government documents.

Prosecution alleges that on 9th May this year while at his home in Bukoto Nakawa division, Kazinda forged the signature of the Permanent Secretary Pius Bigirimana on Bank of Uganda security papers and later addressed them to the Director of the said Bank, an act that was prejudicial to his employer.

An army man in Uganda killed his male friend because he returned home with his wife. Lieutenant Colonel John Kaye is now facing murder charges at the Court Martial in Kampala.

The colonel denies the charges and asks for bail. It is said that Kaye shot dead Steven Kabuye when he turned up with Kaye’s wife in his car at their residence inKampala.

Prosecution alleges that Lt. Col. Kaye committed the offence in November last year. After hearing the prosecution side the court presided over by Brig. Charles Angina refused to grant him bail.

Lt. Col. Kaye is a serving army officer in UPDF. He is facing a capital offence so the court refused to grant him bail. Kaye’s case is to be heard weekly.

Security minister Muluri Mukasa has supported the Anti torture bill currently being scrutinized by the legal and parliamentary affairs committee of parliament saying it will outlaw torture.

However he suggests that the law should be balanced to protect the people who collect information from suspects which can be used for successful prosecution.

Muluri who was giving views on this bill before the committee, says that if the bill is not balanced, the people responsible for interrogating suspects will fear to do their work well.

The bill was tabled before parliament as a private members bill by Ndorwa east mp Wilfred Niwagaba to make torture a crime.

Intelligence officers in Kampala are probing reports that city socialite Bad Black real names Shanita Namuyimbwa fraudulently acquired a passport.

The investigations started after Bad Black last week unsuccessfully applied to secure a Germany Visa so as to travel to Germany.

Bad Black was granted bail in December last year after she had been on remand at Luzira prison for a month on embezzlement charges.

A source at the German embassy told our informers that the officials at the embassy requested her to first bring written clearance from the court allowing her to travel to German because she still had court issues to solve first.  Following the development Uganda intelligence officials started probing circumstances under which Bad Black acquired another passport when her passport was deposited in court last year.

The prosecution says that in September 2010, Bad Black’s boyfriend, David Green Halgh, opened a company with Bad Black. The company was registered as Daveshan Development Limited.

It was to deal in land purchase and property management. Green had 75% of the shares and Bad Black only 25%.
Prosecution says that between September 2010 and March 2011, Green deposited $3,824,130(shs9, 438,075,691) from UK to facilitate the business.

On December5, 2010, Green came to Uganda to monitor the progress of their business but Bad Black repotedly failed to account for the money.

The Uganda coalition on the international criminal court is insisting that the LRA leader Joseph Kony should be captured alive for possible prosecution in the ICC.

The call comes after the recent deployment of about 100 personnel by the US government to help in the pursuit of Joseph Kony.

The coordinator Uganda coalition on the ICC Joyce Apio says it’s crucial that Kony is captured alive, to enable him answer for the atrocities committed against the people in northern Uganda.

She says extrajudicial killings do not uphold good governance and deny suspects the right to a fair hearing;

Apio says the US government which recently sent 100 special forces to help Uganda, South Sudan, DR Congo and Central African Republic to kill or capture Kony and his remaining commanders should ensure the rebel leader is captured alive.
