Sebastian Vettel says he is not going to quit Ferrari following his 2018 Formula One title campaign turn into nightmares.

At the beginning of this year’s Formula One campaign, the German looked set to use his superior red car to scratch back ground against Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

Vettel

Sebastian Vettel’s season struggles continued in Suzuka as an error-strewn performance saw him finish well adrift

But in Monza (Italy), Singapore, Russia and now Japan, not only did Ferrari’s mistakes reign, but the Maranello team’s formerly superior 2018 car dropped steadily behind.

“I will not leave Ferrari.” Vettel said after the race before leaving Suzuka. “I’m part of the team and I want that to be the case and nothing else,” he said

“I think we have a lot of potential. Of course, the last races did not go well for us and we made it too easy for Mercedes. But even so the spirit within the team is good.”

However, Vettel recognizes that the championship is now looking mathematically impossible as Hamilton is likely to grab the title in the United States Grand Prix.

“Of course we know that it is difficult now. But what else do we have to lose?

“We will give everything and there are still important things we can learn and understand about the car,” he said.

A credit sum of $141m (Shs523b) for extension of electricity lines and construction of substations, and $64m (Shs237b) for agriculture and diary production as a way of mending the bi-lateral relations of the two nations.

US president Donald Trump sided with Russian President Vladimir Putin over US intelligence services who claimed that Russia had meddled in the 2016 US presidential elections. This happened during a summit held on 16th July 2018, Monday in Helsink, Finland. Trump also went ahead and shared a message on his twitter account about US relationship with Russia.

Trump’s statement fueled mixed reactions from both America and Russia. Experts criticized Trump’s decision saying that Trump’s focus appeared to be based on his own interest rather than the country’s. Fomer Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief John Brennan said, “We have been clear in our assessments of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and their ongoing pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy, and we will continue to provide unvarnished and objective intelligence in support of our national security.” On the other hand, the  Russians rather referred to the summit as being successful. “The summit was yet another small miracle created by Trump,”  said columnist Edward Lozansky.

Trump defended himself saying he has “great confidence” in US intelligence community but claimed that Putin was “extremely strong and powerful in his denial” that Russia meddled in 2016 presidential election.

However the Us president later changed his statement  saying  he “accepts US intelligence agencies’ conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.” He said he had misspoken on Monday and had meant to say he saw no reason why it was not Russia that meddled.

Uganda’s goalless draw with Ghana proves progress of the Uganda Cranes  as the nation vies for the 2018 world cup in Russia.

Uganda cranes drew 0-0 with the Black stars in the game which was played at Tamale Stadium on the 7th October 2016.

This was the first game of group E but the visitors absorbed a high tense second-half pressure from their West African opponents to earn a vital point on the road.

Avram Grant’s side enjoyed the majority of possession and the clearest chances in Tamale but could not find a way to beat Uganda’s Denis Onyango in goal. Jordan Ayew proved a constant menace in attack but the Aston Villa man’s end product was lacking. Acheampong was also kept at bay by Cranes’ Khalid Aucho keeping the visitors in the game.

Micho’s side had a couple of chances at goal but Ghana keeper Razak Brimah proved too strong to beat.

This game showed the progress the nation has made since acquisition of Serbian tactician Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.

Micho arrived in Uganda in May 2013  taking over the reins from the sacked Bobby Williamson.

On his arrival, he stated his goals as being development of youth systems, Moving Uganda in the FIFA World ranking and give players a chance to play in European leagues.

“One of my aims is to develop the youth systems, and I want us to move from 97th in the rankings up to 70, and stay there to give our players a chance to play in top European leagues.” Stated  Micho.

The goals have to some extent being achieved like the transformation of the football culture in Uganda, the national team has remained amongst the top 70 in the Fifa World rankings, while qualifying for Gabon and players have got a chance to move to European league.

Uganda  ended a 38-year wait for a place in the African Nations Cup finals by securing a 1-0 win over the Comoros Islands in Kampala on 4th September 2016.

Uganda is the best ranked country in the East African region with neighbours Kenya dropping in the latest Fifa world rankings released on 15th September 2016.

All this shows that Uganda is moving in the right direction and can keep dreaming of great things to come.

The progress could be attributed to different factors but Onyango who is considered by many as one of Africa’s most experienced goalkeeper is a pillar to the progress the Uganda cranes have had.

Dennis Onyango is one of the most experinced goalkeepers in Africa

Dennis Onyango is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in Africa

Onyango has got good organizational skills; leadership and individual brilliance at the back which helps him organize his defence.

In games away from home, keeping a clean sheet is crucial and Uganda has somehow mastered the art of doing so. This dwells well with the recent record on the road.

The cranes have won three, lost one and drawn another in their last five competitive away matches.
This was highlighted by Milutin Sredojevic making it clear that the run of good results by Uganda is not an accident but the work of the team.

PAST COMPETITIVE AWAY MATCHES FOR CRANES

Sept, 5 2015: Comoros 0-1 Uganda

Nov, 12 2015: Togo 0-1 Uganda

Mar 26, 2016: Burkina Faso 1-0 Uganda

Jun 4, 2016: Botswana 1-2 Uganda

Oct 7, 2016: Ghana 0-0 Uganda

This is no mean feat on the African continent where home advantage is crucial if one is to have a chance of qualification for different competitions.

The point Uganda got away from Ghana is just the beginning of the tough task ahead.

Home advantage does not guarantee points as witnessed by Egypt’s coming from behind to defeat Congo 2-1 in Brazzaville to take Group E leadership but plays a crucial part.

Micho labels Ghana and Egypt favourites

According to the monitor, Ghana’s failure to earn three points against Uganda has not hindered Micho from naming them as favourites alongside Egypt in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

“Egypt with Ghana are still carrying tag of favourites due to the fact that Egypt won away,” admitted Micho

Egypt lead Group E with three points after they defeated Congo 2-1 in Brazzaville while Ghana are level with Uganda on one point each.

The Serb also stated that the game against Ghana was a measure of character and not numbers at the World cup qualifiers table standings.

“That is what I was looking from the match against Ghana, character, not numbers at the World cup qualifiers table standings.”

Micho added: “Once we improve standards we shall then automatically become contenders to go to World Cup.
“We got a point away in Ghana but we have no right to exaggerate things but realistically look to not be favourites on paper and contenders on the field of play with performance earning practical not declarative tag of favourites.
“We need to approach the next five matches like five cup finals looking in each to fight like lions in human shape for three points and see what will come out as final product.”

Uganda’s next game will be against Congo while Ghana will take on Egypt in November, 2016.

If Uganda Cranes get maximum points  against Congo in Kampala,it will enhance the notion that football  progression  is on the rise.

President Museveni has congratulated the people of Sudan upon conclusion of a historic national dialogue that places the country on a new political path.

The President made the remarks yesterday at the National Friendship Hall in Khartoum, where he was among the four heads of state invited to witness the conclusion of the dialogue and signing of a historic pact.

The other heads of state present were Idriss Deby of Chad, Egypt’s Fatah Al-Sisi and Mohammed Abdul-Aziz of Mauritania.

“I came here to salute Bashir and the people of Sudan for after 60 years of trouble, sitting down in a national dialogue and finding out what the problem is,” said President Museveni.

“You have come to good consensus and I congratulate you on that achievement. It’s good for the political class in Sudan,” he added.

President Museveni said the African political class had been responsible for the continent’s many problems by lacking humility and putting identity at the forefront.

“I am this, I am that. I am an Arab, I am an African, I am a Muslim, I am a Christian, I am pagan. So what if you’re that?” said the President.

“Ask yourself the next question; how will you achieve prosperity? Will identity give you prosperity? Will it take your children to school, build a better house, defeat poverty?”

President Museveni said: “Identity is important but it’s not everything. You must also talk about prosperity.”

The President also revealed that the frosty relationship between Kampala and Khartoum was no more.

“I had not come to Sudan for a long time because we had misunderstandings. You know the story,” he said.

“But I linked up with some people who linked me to Field Marshal Bashir and we spoke. I came here a few months back and I am back.”

The political class in Sudan who attended the event.

Sudan’s unity and stability, the President said, directly impacts on Uganda’s prosperity.
“Uganda is losing opportunities by wars in the Sudan. You have heard us being called land-locked. We’re not land-locked,” he said.

“We have a highway called the Nile that leads us to the Mediterranean but it can’t be used because of problems in the Sudan. Uganda will do everything possible to support Sudan in peace-making.”

The national dialogue was held under motto “Sudan for All”.

Yesterday’s colourful meeting, punctuated with music and dance, was the climax of over a year-long activity sponsored by the African Union and the US government.

The dialogue brings together over 90 political parties and armed groups which signed the agreement yesterday.

It’s key tenets are respect of human rights, political accountability and transparency, unity even with ethnic diversity and empowering women.
Others are equal distribution of national income, free role of civil society, conserve the environment, create employment, well-balanced foreign policy, elections based on presidential system, among others.

On his part, President Bashir said the initiative will cause political stability based on good governance and democratic process.

“There’s no chance after this for violence to characterize our politics. This national document is for all Sudanese people, built on consensus and is open to other groups yet to sign to do so when they can,” he said.

Presidents Al-Sisi, Deby and Mohammed all congratulated Sudan on the historic move, each promising their countries’ support for the process.
Other delegates who addressed the dialogue were from China, Russia, Ethiopia and the Arab League.

Ghana host Uganda at the Tamale Sports Stadium in the opening group E fixture of the World Cup qualifiers on Friday 7th October 2016.

The Black stars will play an inspired Uganda Cranes who made history by qualifying for a first Afcon tournament since 1978, edging Comoros 1-0 on 4th September, 2016 to book their ticket to Gabon.

Ghana are instilled as slight favourites in Group E with fierce competition expected from Egypt but Uganda are no push overs according to Ghana coach Avram Grant.

The Black Stars are looking for a World Cup appearance scheduled for Russia in 2018 and Grant labeled the Cranes as being ‘very good’ a head of their game.

He told CAFOnline.com that we are starting the journey again to (Russia) and the game is very difficult. I know the result in the last Africa Cup of Nations qualification which they Uganda qualified and it was very symbolic for them.

“They are a very good side but we always want to show that we are strong. I don’t think it will be an easy game but our target is the same – to win and to do everything to be in Russia.

“It is a group stage, so the most important… it’s a very tough group all the teams can qualify but we have our own wishes. We are playing against a very strong side and so the most important thing is that we will be ready on Friday”.

Ghana  are without injured influential duo, Kwadwo Asamoah and Andre Ayew but Ghana captain Asmoah Gyan is fit to play.

Meanwhile Tonny Mawejje  who scored the goal when the Cranes last visited Ghana says that sealing qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia will be a dream for his Nation.

“When you look at the qualification, we don’t play different teams from those we face in AFCON qualifiers,” he argued.

“It’s the same teams and that gives us courage and hope that if we do work hard and together as a team, we can achieve the dream,” he added.

Uganda will look to Denis Onyango in goal to curb Ghana’s threats since he is one of Africa’s most experienced goalkeepers.

The game between Ghana and Uganda will be played at 6:30 pm (East African Time)

Facts about Ghana and Uganda clash:

A delegation from the United States of America(USA) and European Union(EU) walked out on Uganda President Yoweri Museveni swearing-in ceremony  in Kampala.

The point of departure the dignitaries said was the attendance of Sudanese President Omar al Bashir and the remarks he made on the International Criminal Court (ICC). Museveni said court is Irrelevant to the Africa.

ICC Chief Prosecutor, Luis Moreno Ocampo in 2008 alleged that al-Bashir bore individual criminal responsibility for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed since 2003 in Darfur.

Museveni took time during his victory speech to throw jibes at the ICC which he said has lost credibility is no longer entertained in Africa.

“We lost interest in ICC, it is non of our business. ICC is a bunch of useless people” Museveni said as Bashir nodded in affirmative.

The diplomats were seen walking out immediately after these comments were made, a development that the American Embassy confirmed to Daily Monitor.

“I can confirm that the US delegation departed the inauguration ceremony because of the presence of Sudanese President Bashir and the comments of President Museveni regarding the international criminal court(ICC). The US did not lead the walkout, it was a mutual decision,” American embassy Spokesman Chris Brown said by telephone last evening.

Museveni also praised China and Russia, which he called Uganda’s genuine friends and made negative comments that were interpreted as targeting the western countries.

We may now know why president Museven is refusing to increase the national budget of the health ministry and gunning for more funds in state house and the defence ministry.

President Museveni’s government after buying fighter junk jets from a Russian arms export company, three planes of which crushed on their way to Somalia, is planning to buy six more fighter jets from Russia.

Information we are getting from Moscow is that president Museveni and his bush war comrades in NRM government are in talks with Rosoboron export about the option of buying additional Sukhoi Su-30 jets. The company’s deputy director, Alexander Mikheyev is aware of the talks.

Perhaps this could be the reason why Museveni is refusing to increase money to buy drugs and medication for poor Ugandans in order to take forward the government project of buying fighter jets.
