Representatives of Persons With Disabilities (PWD)in Parliament have asked government to increase on the 3billion allocation for their empowerment.

The funds are provided by government to cater for special interest groups but reports indicate less or very few people benefit from it due to prolonged bureaucracy and paper work at different levels.

Hon. Safia Nalule Juuko, who represents PWDs in Parliament says they have benefited from the fund and pessimistic that they may benefit from theĀ 43billion Uganda women entrepreneurship fund.

They revealed this while discussing the fund with gender ministry officials where State Minister for Gender, Peace Mutuuzo, put it that all women should compete for these funds but special arrangements shall be discussed for the different interest groups.

Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) has welcomed a directive by the Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Labour and Social Development towards the quick re-development of National Theatre despite strong opposition from a section of artists.

The chairperson of the committee who is also Nakasongola Woman MP, Margaret Komuhangi directed the State Minister for Gender, Peace Mutuzo who had appeared before the committee to ensure that the re-development of both the Nomo gallery and National theater are fast tracked to enable themĀ  generate more income and create employment opportunities for Ugandans.

In the same vain, the Chairman General of National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) who is also a board member of Uganda National Cultural Centre, Usher Wilson Owere commends the committee for the directive noting that the redevelopment is going to take place as planned.
