Youth have demanded parliament to urgently amend the National youth council to provide a legal framework under which the youth are elected as Members of Parliament so as there is no vacuum for their existence in parliament. The youth told journalists in Kampala that parliament should prevail over government to table amendments related to how youth members of parliament are elected.

The aspiring Member of Parliament for youth, central region, Andrew Kiryowa, said that the government assertion for appealing in Supreme Court over the ruling that the presence of army, youth and workers MPs unconstitutional is a waste of time yet what is needed is to streamline the law.

Kiryowa said that it was wrong to give the Minister powers to determine who will vote or participate in the election of Members of Parliament yet the  constitution under clause 78 section 3 mandates parliament to determine the procedures for the election of members of parliament.

Sarah Babirye Kityo who is also aspiring for youth MP central region  said that the current members of parliament could have lost their seats but were favoured by government.

Countries like America, United Kingdom and South Africa where many Ugandans migrate to get odd jobs are worried after researches revealed that 45% of the Ugandan youths wherever they are live on drugs and alcohol.

This is contained in the research findings collected by Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL). The programmes director of UYDEL, Rogers Mutaawe says that the majority of the Ugandan youths consume alcohol, opium and marijuana among others.

Mutaawe says that the number of youth living on drugs and alcohol is increasing in Kampala.

The youths who consume alcohol and drugs need more rehabilitation, counseling and psychosocial support treatment in order to bring them to normal life.

This follows a meeting between the government of Uganda and officials from the Tanzania government held last month.

Addressing a news conference, the minister of finance Maria Kiwanuka said that they agreed that there will be no extra costs to be incurred by traders on goods that go through the southern route.

She adds that the non-tariff barriers that have been affecting trade have been minimized to facilitate free movement of goods.

The private sector that has been pushing for this has expressed happiness and optimism.

They had earlier raised concern over the possible effect of the forthcoming Kenyan elections on their businesses.

Sections of women in Kampala are too afraid and ashamed to show their faces or have their real names used while trading their bodies for money. Many women in Uganda’s capital city Kampala have been driven to sell their bodies to put food on the table for their children, parents … for as little as $1 a day.

“People should not talk hell about us,” says Faridah Nantumbwe, the chairperson of harlots operating on Luwum Street in Kampala. In Islamic teachings, women have to wear scarves but Faridah even if she is a Muslim; was dressed in a skimpy mini skirt and short blouse that was revealing part of her belly.

The political leaders all say that Ugandan women, especially those in cities and towns have lost their way, but they never ask why women do prostitution.

Many mothers, old women, and younger girls, in Kampala and its suburbs look at prostitution as a booming and lucrative business.

“I don’t have money to educate my children, to take them to hospitals when they fall sick, and pay rent. I have to do anything that I can to preserve my children, because I am a single mother,” says Nantumbwe, while explaining why she does prostitution.

“No matter how off the normal path I may be, I remain a Ugandan,” she adds as anger and frustration rise in her voice as she speaks.

Nantumbwe says that her neighbours and parents think that she has a night job when she goes away. She says at first she was vending food on Luwum Street but she wasn’t making much money. Other women claim that they do prostitution because their husbands died. Another harlot, who only identified herself as Ann told our scribe Walakira Nyanzi in Kampala this week that most women have clients that call them for commercial sex a couple of times a week. Some women resort to trips to find potential clients or they flag down vehicles.

Ann says at first she rejected it but later realised she had to do it to earn a living. It seems prostitution is now a choice for most women in Kampala and most parts of Uganda because the National Resistance Movement Government (NRM) has not created enough jobs for its citizens. “The vice is increasing,” says Ann.

This time its poor dressing code which is making some diplomats to ignore some Ugandan social centres like beaches.
The other day because of the stress some diplomats and clergies encountered, they decided to go to one of the beaches around Entebbe town but they left that place with a story to tell to their great grand daughters and sons.
Many people still don’t know why people mistake beaches to be places where they have to move naked especially women.
The diplomats from two countries in Europe yesterday came a cross a Ugandan lady who was no chicken, she actually looked very old, very tired, and according to how people rated her age, she must have given birth to not less than 17 kids.
This woman had dressed too bad, exposing her back which was too dark like roasted meat. I think women need to revise the way they dress, no one needs to know what is inside them, and some of us still need to enjoy the fresh airs of the river banks. The diplomats whom we have not named because they did not want to be named wondered why some Ugandan old women who visit the beach are too immoral.

HIV/AIDS women inUgandaget married to multiple partners without condoms in order to ease their libido, latest research findings reveal.

Research findings indicate that over 60% of women inUgandahave multiple sex partners, and three thirds of them do not use condoms during sexual engagements. In Hoima district, about 90% of the women there have multiple lovers according to the latest survey on HIV/Aids, reproductive health and sanitation.

One of the Population Officers in Uganda, Lydia Asiimwe says that the survey findings were so shocking and explains why the HIV prevalence in Ugandais higher than it was in 2005. The Uganda AIDS Indicator Survey (UAIS) report released last month indicates that Uganda’s HIV/AIDS prevalence rate shot up from 6.4% in 2005 to 7.3% today. The research findings indicate that the prevalence is higher among women (8.3%) than men (6.1%).

Asiimwe says that about 50% of the women inUgandado not use condoms.Uganda’s population is projected at 34 million people with a growth rate of about 4.7 with a fertility rate of about 6.9%. On the other hand, infant mortality rate inUgandastands at 88 out of 1,000 live births and 437 women die during birth (maternal mortality rate).

The government of Uganda, according to Asiimwe,  is organizing massive sensitization campaigns to educate women, saying many don’t know the risks involved in having more than one sex partner, more so when having unprotected sex.

The survey also reveals that most women inUgandaare illiterate and poor, therefore vulnerable to sex exploitation.

Research findings further indicate that most of these poor women inUgandaare the breadwinners in their families; therefore they can easily get compromised when confronted for commercial sex.

The East African Community Secretary General, Dr Richard Sezibera has petitioned the High Court in Kampala pleading with the judges to save Kampala based lawyer, Fred Mukasa Mbidde and all other eight Ugandan representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

In his petition, Dr. Sezibera said that the election of Uganda’s representatives to EALA was legal because he supervised the oath taking exercise for EALA members as stipulated in article 67 of the East African treaty.

Sezibera’s petition follows a petition filed against him and the Attorney General of Uganda, Peter Nyombi by two aggrieved Ugandan youths: Jeremiah Birungi Kamurali and Aarali Byaruhanga, who claim that the election exercise of Ugandan representatives to EALA was illegally done by Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement Government (NRM) headed by Gen. Kaguta Museveni.

Dr Sezibera in his petition says that when Uganda’s EALA representatives were taking oath there was no complaint raised against him for accepting the oath of Ugandan representatives to EALA.

He also says that there was no court order barring him from overseeing the oath-taking exercise.

The Ugandan petitioners want the court to declare that the nine Ugandan EALA members are imposters because they were not vetted by the Parliament vetting committee.
The elections of Ugandan representatives to EALA were held on May 30.

Now in many European countries, when one mentions Uganda Embassy in UK, Dubai or South Africa, what come first on peoples mind are corruption, fraud and forgery. Some sources around the world have gone to the extent of referring to Uganda’s embassy in Dubai, South Africa and UK as den of corruption and fraud. Our informers have been told for example, that two High Ranking Ugandan OFFICIALS at the Uganda Embassy in UK were arrested by the UK Police and sent to UK Police Custody over FRAUD.
Sections of authorities in UK have told the people concerned to be on alert of some Ugandans at the embassy. But one of the wanted Ugandan officials at the UK Uganda embassy is still on the run and suspected to be back in Uganda. The good thing these Ugandan officials in UK should be proud of is the diplomatic immunity they enjoy.
Meaning that even if they have been arrested, it was just a matter of cautioning them but they will have to come out. We have not mentioned in this article the names of arrested Ugandan officials for purposes of not shaming them.
