The Kyadondo Municipality MP, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobiwine has paid tribute to Former Buyende District Police Commander, Mohammad Kirumira.

Through a facebook post, Bobi Wine decried the manner in which Kirumira and others were killed at a tender and most fruitful age.

“My brother Afande Kirumira, today you’re being laid to rest at only 35 years of age. I am still struggling to believe that you were shamelessly murdered in cold blood

“Sadly, the present conditions could not allow me attend your funeral and pay my last respects to you just like I wasnt able to bury all the comrades who were killed in the recent days. Indeed, I was in hospital yesterday when I got the news of your murder in cold blood. Your only crime was speaking truth to power, fighting for justice and loving your country. They were so crude- they did not to use anything else to kill you, but gruesome violence,” He lamented.

Kyagulanyi reflected on the memories Kirumira and him shared and said that it is just a matter of time but ‘we’ are all destined for the same place.

“Today I kept looking at the last picture we took together, seated in the tundra. You were seated in the exact spot where Yasin Kawuma was murdered from by the same people who we pay to protect us. I had just left that seat for a few minutes before he was shot- taking bullets that were probably meant for me. I could have died before you bro. I know we will meet again,

“I reflected on our conversations- the hopes and aspirations we shared for a better country based on equality, unity and social justice.” Bobi Wine’s post read.

They have killed you but they have not stopped the struggle. You stood for what you believed in. It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

The MP concluded the tribute by praying for the deceased’s soul to live in an everlasting eternal life.

“Wumula mirembe kyali wange. Okomangawo no’tagenda wenna mwana wa Taata. Okomangawo wakiri nga oyita mu ngeri yonna,

“We shall never give up bro. We shall never let you down. We shall never give up. We shall be free or die trying,

“May you rest in power.
#PeoplePowerOurPower.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.” Bobi Wine wrote.

Mohammed Kirumira was shot dead by unknown assailants near his home in Bulenga with a female friend identified as Resty Mbabazi.

security operatives broke his hotel door and burst into the bathroom, he promptly volunteered information that he was armed and turned the pistol over to the then Arua District Police Commander, Mr Abbas Ssenyonjo.

The DPC was moved to Masaka the day after Yasin Kawuma(Bobi Wine’s driver) was shot dead, six took bullet wounds and up to 36 people, including Kassiano Wadri, were rounded up in a joint brutal army-police crackdown.

When they [security operatives] came and told us to march, I was the first person to tell them that I was armed and I withdrew my pistol and gave it to them. When I told them that I am armed, one policeman came and asked how I had got a gun…

I told them that I have owned my pistol for the past 20 years. The computer number of my gun is in [CIID] Kibuli [headquarter records] and I licence my gun every January at Arua Police Station

I believe security forces turned envious because my record  supporters surpassed the “children and trees” that the President Museveni had addressed a while earlier Arua Hill grounds.

He pledged to challenge the condition that barred him from travelling to Arua for three months as part of the stringent bail conditions.

“I am the representative of the people of Arua Municipality. In order to exercise the elective role, you must be in-charge of the electorate and issues on the ground and be seen to air the concerns of the electorate.”

In 2018, Robert Kyagulanyi gained more fame when he was an active participant in the “Togikwato” campaign which was against the extension of Presidential age limit. He was also on the front line of the protests against the taxes which were imposed on social media and mobile money.

He has also championed the winning of most by-elections by the candidates he campaigned for, beating the candidates of the political party in power, the National Resistance Movement as well as the major opposition party, the Forum for Democratic Change. He sided with Hon. Asuman Basalirwa who won the Bugiri by-election,  Kasiano Wadri  an independent candidate in the recent by-election in Arua Municipality to replace the late Honorable Ibrahim Abiriga, as a member of Parliament.

Kyagulanyi was arrested right after the campaign on suspicion of inciting his supporters to attack the Presidential motorcade, which resulted into the shattering of the glass of one of the vehicles in the convoy. Amdist the chaos, Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma, was shot dead by a stray bullet. All in all, 33 individuals including MPs like Kasiano Wadri who won the by-election of Arua  Municipality, Gerald Karuhanga of Ntungamo Municipality and Francis Zzake of Mityana Municipality were arrested and detained by Uganda Police, assisted by the Special Forces Command (SFC).

Bobi Wine was arrested due to illegal possession of fire arms, and inciting violence. He was detained by Police and transferred to Gulu town. While in detention, he was allegedly beaten and tortured. This led to discontent among his supporters and sympathizers who staged a number of riots and demonstrations that spread to different parts of Kampala city and the world demanding that Bobi Wine be freed using the slogans , “FreeBobiWine” and “PeoplePowerOurPower.”

On  23 August 2018, the state dropped the charges of possession of fire arms against Robert Kyagulanyi in the court Martial and he was handed over to the civilian court to be tried for Treason. He was remanded to return to court on the 30 August 2018. However, Robert Kyagulanyi’s lawyers did their best towards his bail application and on 27 August 2018, he was released on bond. From the court cells, Robert Kyagulanyi was taken in an ambulance for medical attention. But he together with other suspects are expected to appear before court on 30th August 2018.

In a statement posted on his facebook timeline on Wednesday, Museveni said that he understands that some people were worried about the endless criminal acts of elements of the Opposition, including the incidents of Arua on Monday.
“I always insist on singling out the grandchildren because I want them to be conversant with our rich experiences spanning a period of 58 years. The elements of the Opposition, including Kassiano Wadri, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) and others, who stoned our convoy, including my vehicle,” President Museveni said.

Responding to the critics on how a bullet-proof car could be smashed by a mere stone, the president explained that the car is purposely for carrying luggage and therefore is not protected.

“The stones they threw broke the rear glass window of the car where we transport luggage. That window glass is not armoured. There was no harm on the old man with a hat,” he said, adding: “It is a big shame to have such confused people who want to use violence to intimidate Ugandans. Nobody has a right to intimidate any Ugandan by word or action.” Kaguta highlighted.

“Unfortunately, this crowd, with a tinga tinga (a grader), apparently continued to the town where they attacked people who were coming from the NRM rally. They injured quite a number of people with stones. It was in those scuffles that one of the attackers was shot dead. This is due to the weak management by the Police and the criminal behaviour of some of the Opposition leaders,” he added.

Mr Museveni wondered why an elite politician would go against the law and conduct a movement through the streets instead of convening a rally at one place.

“These acts are strongly rejected and will be punished according to the law. Anybody who organizes such groups is responsible for their misconduct,” he said, concluding that: “We went to the bush to fight for the right of making political decisions by Ugandans without intimidation by word or action. Anybody who threatens this will have himself to blame.”

The chaos claimed life of one person and six others were left injured. Bobi wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead in that chaos.

Following yesterday’s shooting of Robert Kyagulanyi’s driver, Yasin Kawuma, motormouth Tamale Mirundi has come out to give his two cents on the incident saying criminal gangs have infiltrated Bobi Wine’s circles.

According to Mirundi, Ugandans should first understand that it’s criminal to raise your hand up while holding a stone when the presidential convoy is passing.

He further states that Bobi Wine’s ‘People Power’ circles have been permeated by criminal gangs who are only experts in causing chaos.

Mirundi then heaved in former FDC president, Dr. Kiiza Besigye, saying he has handed his “hooligans” to the Kyadondo East legislator.

“Bobi Wine has inherited Besigye’s hooliganism groups of unemployed Baganda youths. It is evident that the so far registered death in Arua is of a Muganda man,” Mirundi alleged.

Over 34 people have been arrested including journalists. The whereabouts of Bobi Wine together with fellow MPs are yet to be known.
