The National Resistance Movement (NRM) looser in the recently concluded Kasese district woman MP by elections, Hajati Rehemah Muhindo has declared that she is going to quite active politics and concentrates on her businesses.

Ms Rehema quits active politics after she miserably lost to Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) strong iron lady, Nalongo Winfred Kiiza Bihande in the district woman MP polls.

Rehema lost the race during the FDC ‘political tsunami’ that swept all NRM corners in Rwenzori region and led police to arrest and detain the electoral  commission’s returning officer for Kasese after president Museveni’s claim that opposition members had bribed the electoral commission.

Handing over the Cheque to the SACCO administration at their head office located along Kilembe road in Kasese Municipality yesterday, the District chairperson Lt. Col.  Mawa Muhindo commended the work well done by the cooperative adding that they were role models to the entire Kasese community.

The chairman pledged his close working relationship towards the development of the cooperative and encouraged them enroll more members on Board.

He encouraged members to use the fund as a tool that will help them improve their household incomes.

He commended the Government of Belgium through BTC for a recommendable work in the district especially in the social economic sector, capacity building, and construction of infrastructures like roads, schools, markets, and bridges among other investments.

The Mayor Kasese Municipality His worship Kabyanga Godfrey who also witnessed the official handover of the cheque pledged to supervise and monitor the implementation of the project to make sure that the money is put to its anticipated use.

Kabyanga promised to link the cooperative to other development partners for assistance since it is among the organized pensioners Cooperative in the country.

The secretary Manager for the cooperative  John Bosco Muhindo said that the fund will help to finance key investment and expand the operations of the cooperative.

It is said 12 people all residents of Kisinga trading centre, Kyesinga sub-county were rushed to Kadoga Hospital n Saturday shortly after they developed stomach complications and started vomiting at a wedding party.
The criminal investigation officer Alex Ojoko has said the 12 people were part of the group of over 20 people who had accompanied the bride to the wedding ceremony.

Ojoko says food samples from Kyambisi have since been sent to Kampala at the government chemist. He says police had worked so hard to bring the situation come between the two affected families and to avoid any uprising of violence.

Ojoko says the cooks at the ceremony were held into custody briefly and later released on bond.

The chairperson LCIII of Kisinga sub-county Charles Kahindo says the number of people who reported the complications after attending the wedding is about 22. He said many others were treated with herbal medicines.

Led by their party chairman Saulo Maate, the FDC leaders delivered a document signed by thirty people including district councilors to the district chairman Rtd Lt.Col Mawa Muhindo calling for further consultations before splitting the district.

On October 26th 2010, the district council passed a motion seeking the split of Kasese district into three namely, Rwenzori, Kasese and Bwera districts.

The FDC leaders and members challenge council for have ignoring the advice of the minister of Local Government and the opinions of the opposition councilors and the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma.

The FDC leaders recommend that a sensitization programme be conducted with a view of creating awareness about the likely benefits as regards splitting the district.

Led by the current Chairman LC5 Rev. Julius Kithaghenda, the NRM cadres say that with the increasing population, services are no longer reaching the beneficiaries appropriately. Kasese district has a population of about 800,000 people.

Kithaghenda proposes that if granted, the new districts should be named as Bwera in the western and Rwenzori in the eastern parts of greater Kasese.

However, the group opposed to the creation of new districts says that Kithaghenda and group are mere speculators.

They (opposed group) say that Kithaghenda who failed to go through NRM primaries last year want to create Rwenzori district where he can have political influence since he is a born of that area.

When a group led by Katabuka Katabarwa recently went to the Royal Palace (Bukihira) to inquire from the Omusinga (King) Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma about the district split, the King said that the issue should be put to a referendum before a decision is made.

Kasese district has a total surface area of 3,389.8 square kilometers of which about 37 percent is occupied by people and the rest is covered by Queen Elizabeth National Park, Mount Rwenzori National Park, Mount Rwenzori and government projects.
