Job Summary: The Research Associate (RA) will take a lead role in designing survey instruments, conducting qualitative and pilot exercises to inform study and/or questionnaire design, managing survey teams, ensuring data collection protocols are adhered to, ensuring data collected is of highest quality, delivering clean databases, assisting in preliminary analysis, assisting in the writing of project reports and policy memos, and managing communication and relationship with stakeholders (researchers, implementing partners, donors, etc…). The position requires excellent interpersonal and organization skills. It also requires proficiency with Stata software package.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) Research Associate job vacancy must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Health, Social Sciences, Public Policy or related field. Master’s degree in economics, statistics, public policy, public health, social sciences, or related field is desired
  • At least one year of research project experience at a field research management or analyst position;
  • The Research Associate should be highly motivated and qualified with outstanding research project management, data analysis, people management and communication skills as Research Associates, to lead one of IPA Uganda’s upcoming studies.
  • Proficiency with Stata and Microsoft Office tools is necessary, particularly Word and Excel;
  • Excellent written communication skills;
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written;
  • Demonstrated commitment to IPA’s high standards of data quality;
  • Excellent management and organizational skills;
  • Proven ability to coordinate work effectively over email and phone
  • Flexible, self-motivating and team player;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with stakeholders (principal investigators, partner organizations);
  • Previous experience with ODK/Survey CTO programming language;
  • Knowledge of another data analysis or software is a plus;
  • Familiarity with randomized controlled trials is a strong plus;

About US:

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has received funds to support a five year Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) with the United States of America Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Cooperative Agreement will support HIV prevention, care and treatment policy development, strategic information and the current National Laboratory Strategic Plan. The MOH intends to use some of the resources under this assistance to support several technical positions in the AIDS Control Program (ACP), Central Public Health Laboratories (CPHL), Resource Center, and National TB and Leprosy Program (NTLP) to execute the function of policy formulation and monitoring implementation. The staff to be recruited under this support will be contracted by the MOH under the support received from CDC through the CoAg. The contracts are initially for one year with a provision for annual renewal up to four years subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance of the staff.

Job Summary: The Coordinator HIV Prevention will provide overall technical leadership and strategic direction in the development and implementation of the national interventions for prevention of HIV&AIDS

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Managing the development, review and ensuring compliance to policies, plans, strategies, guidelines and standards for HIV prevention
  • Offering timely technical guidance and leadership in business and operational planning and budgeting for HIV prevention activities
  • In charge of coordinating and providing technical support to a broad portfolio of implementing partners, districts and facilities that provide for HIV prevention services.
  • Providing technical support to research initiatives in for HIV prevention
  • Responsible for promoting and enhancing Public Private Partnerships and collaborative linkages between the local Governments, Non-government Organizations and communities.
  • Coordinating capacity building and development activities targeting districts, facilities, and other health workers at various levels.
  • In charge of monitoring and evaluation of program implementation.
  • Managing staff performance and ensuring achievement of set targets
  • Manage the development of periodic reports and submission to relevant authorities

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the CDC Coordinator HIV Prevention job placement must hold an MBChB degree or equivalent from a recognized University
  • Hold a Master’s Degree in Medicine or Paediatrics or Surgery or Public Health or Epidemiology from a recognized university
  • Possession of a post graduate qualification in management, project planning and management or Behavior Change Communication would be an added advantage
  • Possession of a fellowship in HIV&AIDS or infectious diseases is an added
  • A minimum of nine years relevant working experience managing HIV&AIDS programs at national or regional level.
  • Familiarity with current national and global trends for HIV & AIDS policies and practices.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in managing HIV&AIDS programs
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervision, team work, networking, communication & writing skills

Center for Health, Human Rights & Development (CEHURD) is an indigenous, non-profit, research and advocacy organization, whose vision is “To realize social justice in public health systems.” CEHURD works with public, private and civil society organisations to ensure that public health laws are used as principle tools for the promotion and protection of public health of the vulnerable populations in Uganda.

Job Summary: The Programme Officer – Research, Documentation and Advocacy (RDA) will be responsible for performing the tasks listed below towards supporting the programme. This is a highly engaging position requiring multitasking capabilities and capacities to research, write and engage with evidence.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Supporting the RDA program’s advocacy efforts by assisting with drafting petitions, policy briefs, briefing papers, internal memorandums, and other advocacy documents.
  • Using editing skills to assist with fact-checking of reports, petitions, draft publications, and other documents as needed.
  • Carrying out legal and policy research and analysis on international law, human rights law, and foreign and comparative law.
  • Develop and share program meeting minutes.
  • Develop legal analyses of laws and bills in Uganda from a human rights perspective.
  • Constantly work in consultation and support of the Program Manager to implement health rights advocacy and documentation projects in line with the overall CEHURD Strategic Plan.
  • Actively promote appropriate linkages between CEHURD’s other programs and the health rights advocacy and documentation work.
  • Promote a rights based approach in programming work on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.
  • Develop health rights advocacy and documentation work plans and budgets.
  • Mapping and keeping data for the partners identified in health rights advocacy.
  • Conduct parliamentary advocacy in health including keeping abreast with relevant parliamentary committees for example committee on health and human rights.
  • Engaging with health rights related institutions in Uganda including the human rights commission.
  • Carry out and engage in all activities involving the Ministry of Health in Uganda particularly the reproductive health thematic areas and the Maternal and Child Health processes.
  • Organize and attend all meetings and training by CEHURD and or other relevant partners in advocacy for health.
  • Engage in and carry out research in health related fields of particular interest to CEHURD in given periods of time.
  • Provide support to proposal development processes in line with the strategic plan of CEHURD
  • Coordinate work that is being implemented between the different programs of CEHURD.
  • In addition to individual respective tasks, the Programme Officer will be expected:
  • Adhere to CEHURD values and to actively promote their application amongst colleagues.
  • Undertake tasks in a creative, self-driven and innovative fashion.
  • Identify and implement additional tasks/ideas of benefit to the organization.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

  • The ideal candidate for the Programme Officer vacancy must hold a Bachelors’ Degree in Law, Human Rights, Social Science, Political Science, Economics, Public Health or any related qualifications.
  • Possession of a Post Graduate qualification in any of the fields above will be an added advantage
  • Prior experience in Human Rights and the Right to Health Advocacy is highly desirable.
