blood-bagUgandan negative attitude towards blood donation is cited as a factor contributing to scarcity of blood in blood banks. The blood donor recruiter with Nakasero blood Bank  Ariho Franco says most Ugandan do not want to donate blood even when they are asked to do so leaving the exercise to a few people causing a big blood deficit in hospitals.
Ariho notes that currently the country is facing more shortage and  calls for increased efforts towards donation to have the bank store with enough blood needed to give life to those that need it at that particular time. He urges religious leaders to always invite them to their respective places of worship to collect blood from the believers. However one of the pastors at triple blessing church Patrick Llubulwa says this is one of the reason they are having a crusade as a church to help give a life to those who need it through blood donation.

The death of Uganda’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Eriya Kategaya, 70, has split Ugandans, especially members of the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM). Kategaya died last Sunday in Nairobi based hospital.

But some members of the ruling party, some opposition politicians and members of the general Ugandan public ask for the reasons why the late Kategaya was not taken to Europe for treatment and why president Museven and the first family are quiet over the matter.

Some Ugandans along the streets of Kampala have been overheard as saying that ‘president Museveni was not happy with late Kategaya as the deceased was opposed to lifting up of presidential term limits for president Museveni to rule for life.’

Critics allege that president Museveni never fully forgave the deceased and perhaps suspected that Kategaya was equally very opposed to the first family’s reported maneuvering to see Museveni’s son Muhozi Kainerugaba becoming president of Uganda.

Mulindwa Warid Lubega, opposition activists in Kampala wonders how Museveni’s government could fail to take Kategaya to Europe yet the same Museveni can afford to take his daughters to German just to give birth.

Kategaya died of “blood clots” which is the same condition that affected Mrs Clinton last year. Doctors say that blood clots can not kill anyone after diagnosing it in European and some good Asian hospitals.

Today we bring to you how you may handle nose bleeding in babies (first aid). As soon as a nose bleed begins, have the child sit up while firmly exerting pressure on the nose by pinching the lower, soft part of the nose between the thumb and forefinger for about 10 minutes.
Alternatively wet a wad of cotton with hydrogen peroxide or petroleum jelly and pack it in the nose, leaving part of it outside.
Tell the child to breath through the mouth and discourage them from playing any rough games for a couple of hours.
It is discouraged to let the child lay down because this increase blood pressure in the head, therefore sending more blood to the nose and making nose bleed harder to stop. A side, blood may run down the child’s throat and may irritate the stomach, causing vomiting.

To many people, eating molokony (cattle hooves) is behaving so low. In fact, some people perceive eating molokony as poor feeding.

But on the contrary, nutrients recommend eating molokony for its health benefits, as the food prevents dehydration because it has plenty of nutritious fluids.

The food is also rich in iron, which aids red blood cell replacement and carrying of life-giving oxygen to the lungs and other body parts.

Eating Molokony helps to prevent bone-related diseases and complications that rise from lack of calcium in the body. Molokony is a potential source of energy for the body, supplying 9 calories per gram.

A stroke is always a medical emergency. If you have these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention: sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arms or legs, sudden vision changes in one or both eyes, sudden difficulty walking due to dizziness, loss of balance and in-coordination and sudden piercing headaches without cause.

Stroke happens when the blood supplied to the brain is interrupted and the brain doesn’t get the oxygen it needs.

The condition is a medical emergency and every minute counts, according to Dr. Aisha Lukwago, an expert in treating Africans.

A stroke can be categorized as ISCHEMIC or HEMORRHAGIC STROKE. An Ischemic stroke is caused by a blood clot that blocks or plugs a blood vessel or artery in the brain. But 80% of all strokes are ischemic. Haemorrhagic on the other hand is caused by blood vessels in the brain that breaks and breads into the brain. About 20% of strokes are haemorrhagic. Stroke is dangerous because it injures the brain, therefore immediately one suspects, he/she should see a doctor.

Some heart attacks are sudden intense. Others start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort, then progress over time.

Commonly, people experience a heart attack when they are not fully aware of what is happening and they may not seek immediate medical attention. This can prove fatal.

The signs of heart attack and symptoms of a heart attack may include shortness of breath or a tight chest sensation, pain over the heart or the middle of the chest, pain or discomfort in one or both arms, neck, jaw and back, a cold sweat, upset stomach and dizziness. High Blood pressure and heart attack have connection. Our medical experts say that blood pressure is controlled by flexibility and overall side of the blood vessels.

Inflammation and excess cholesterol reduce the flow of blood, which ultimately increases the pressure within the blood vessel. When the pressure increases your heart must work harder to pump blood through the smaller space and wherever the blood is travelling to (for example; arms, toes, brain etc) will suffer.

Blood carries vital nutrients and oxygen to tissues throughout the body. The diminished blood flow ultimately affects the ability to heal over time, the tissues deteriorate.

Well you may be at risk of suffering from heart disease(s) if you have a family member or parent who has developed a heart attack or stroke at an early age.

But genetics is no longer the primary determinant for cardiovascular disease. Learned lifestyle, school exercise, diet and stress management have been found to play significant role in the development of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes or obesity.

Even if your mother or father had heart disease, you can still make personal lifestyle improvement that reduces your risk significantly. Its better also to note that blood pressure is controlled by flexibility and overall side of the blood vessels.

Inflammation and excess cholesterol reduce the flow of blood, which ultimately increases the pressure within the blood vessel. When the pressure increases your heart must work harder to pump blood through the smaller space and wherever the blood is travelling to (for example; arms, toes, brain etc) will suffer.

Today we are privileged to bring to you the connection between high blood pressure and heart disease: Doctors from Mulago Hospital say that blood pressure is controlled by flexibility and overall side of the blood vessels.

Heart disease develops as a result of people having poor diet. People across the globe look and they are what they eat. Every choice we make in our eating habits will impact us one day. Our diet plays a significant role in prevention or production of heart diseases. Diets high in artificial processed fats, low in fresh vegetables and fruit, and high in alcohol put people at the greatest risk of heart disease.

In order to help your blood pressure under control and therefore lower your risk of cardiovascular disease, limit the amount of salt you consume. As much as 75% of the salt in the average diet comes from processed foods-everything from bacon to soups and salad dressing. Choose foods without added salt and prepare home-cooked food with little or no salt. All natural food items such as fruits vegetables, fish and lean meats have very little salt.

There are many anti-depressive therapies that use salt in order to preserve the serotonin and melatonin (Neuro transmitters) levels in the brain. The reason rock salt is considered a main anti-stress compound is because it has minerals that help exfoliate dead skin [cells], cleanse skin pores and protect the skin resulting in a healthy and energized skin.

It also helps rejuvenate and strengthen the skin to make it look firm and younger. It also helps get rid of minerals and refined salt deposits by stimulating blood circulation and mineral balance.

The crystal structured mineral also acts as a health monitor that maintain a balance of low and high blood pressure. The salt is used to treat rheumatic pains and herpes. When rock salt is consumed with lemon juice, rock salt can eliminate stomach worms and control vomiting, cough, and chest pain. Rock salt (ekisula in Luganda Language) is referred to as halite mineral, is formed by evaporation of salty water which contains dissolved sodium chloride and less potassium ions.

For many people, rock salt is a tenderiser that helps soften food eg dry beans. Many people unconsciously benefit from it. Its potassium and sodium Ions acts as power generators in the body cells.

Neurons, the cells that transmit messages throughout the body, use ions to communicate information to perform tasks such as regulating body temperature.

Rock salt contains pure minerals eg calcium, potassium, zinc, magnesium and copper. It also acts as an important factor in cancer prevention, as cancer cells can’t live in oxygenated atmosphere. Rock salts aid the movement of blood to keep the body oxygenated.

Scientists say rock salt helps people with diabetes as it regulates blood sugar in the body. The zinc found in rock salt also helps in growth and development of (strong and fertile) sperm cells.

However rock salt may cause goiter if over taken, even hydrocele (empanama) because it brings a lot of water.
