Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • The Accounts Assistant will be preparing invoices to different customers
  • Preparing requisitions, vouchers and cheques as assigned
  • In charge of filling all payment vouchers and other source documents in proper order
  • Receiving, keeping, issuing, controlling of and posting approved petty paid cash
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly reports
  • Following up on accountabilities for funds paid out.
  • Assisting on debt collection and picking of cheques
  • Ensuring that proper authorization of transactions is done
  • Assist in the preparation of reconciliations/ financial reports

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Diploma in Accounting, or Commerce or Finance, or Business Administration
  • Completed at least 1 level of CPA or ACCA
  • A minimum of two years of direct and professional experience in a busy Finance function.
  • Strong Knowledge of Quick Books or Tally

  • Arranging the effective distribution of marketing materials;
  • Maintaining and updating customer and member databases;
  • Organizing and attending events such as conferences, seminars, receptions and exhibitions to showcase FUE services;
  • Sourcing and securing sponsorships;
  • Contributing to, and developing, marketing plans and strategies;
  • Supporting, Monitoring, and Training Marketing Officers and Regional Coordinators in attaining set
  • The Marketing Manager will be tasked with planning, developing and implementing effective marketing communication campaigns for conferences and exhibitions.
  • Understanding the service and customer profile and write thorough specs for each conference/exhibition
  • In charge of monitoring ongoing campaign spend against the budget, keeping accurate records and highlighting where variances occur.
  • Undertaking detailed ongoing analysis of marketing campaigns to ensure targets are met
  • Understanding of customer and Market segmentation.

Healthy Entrepreneurs (HE) is a social business based in The Netherlands, with activities in the Great Lake Area of Sub Saharan Africa and in the DRC, Uganda Tanzania and Ghana. HE is specialised in the implementation of distribution models of reliable products and information that enhance health and the quality of life for people in low and middle-income countries. HE aims to contribute to solve social issues by developing and implementing sound commercial business models. HE is at the start of the implementation phase of its franchise operations in Uganda. To do so, it needs external expertise to prepare and implement a wide range of developing, managerial and administrative activities and tasks. This implementation process needs to be aligned with the partners of HE and the local stakeholders, national guidelines, and local requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Company set-up and development

  • Being part of and creating a social starting enterprise;
  • Need to be willing and built on a close, collaborative working relationship with the Procurement and Supply Chain Manager, Finance Manager and Country Manager;
  • Setting the prerequisites to ensure implementation of the full HE social franchise;
  • Ensuring the implementation of the HE franchise model following directives of HE HQ;

Capacity and Relationship building and market development:

  • Set-up and maintain external relations and partnerships, with the aim to make implementation and potential growth of the network of entrepreneurs possible;
  • Organizing and chairing meetings and training with (aspirant) entrepreneurs, (local) government and (inter-)national partners;
  • Set-up, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of franchise model;
  • Ensure that the objective of at least 900 micro entrepreneurs operating in Uganda is reached;
  • Build and maintain positive business relationships with the entrepreneurs in relation to training and monthly follow up;

Planning and Reporting:

  • Identifying directions, objectives and the means to set up analysis and evaluation of various components of the market, supported by HQ;
  • Keep track and control all daily activities following the technical project management tools such as plans, schedules, and responsibility and compliance matrixes.
  • Review operational performance with customers against targets, benchmarks and service agreements, and generate improvement plans for the entrepreneur to increase their outcomes;
  • Coordinating and controlling with the team, activities and implementation needed to make sure that the operations of HE are implemented;
  • Writing monthly reports on the progress of field’s activities and making appropriate recommendations;
  • Design and write SOPs, Work Packages and field reports;

HR and Financial Management:

  • Support the development of training materials and technical manuals;
  • Provide assistance and support to the capacity building team;
  • Manage and register cash flow in relation to operations and capacity building under supervision of the Country Manager and Coordinator;
  • Manage and keep all office expenses in the ERP. Keep a transparent way of administration, that is constant up to date. Until the scale forces to hire a financial officer.
  • Management and deployment of management tools that are used by Healthy Entrepreneurs

Other:

  • Participate and report in operational meetings on international level with other HE staff member from multiple countries.
  • Conduct ad hoc activities that are related to the implementation when needed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The Operations Manager must hold a Bachelor’s degree in business administration or social sciences or extensive experience in the field in a similar position (min 3 years);
  • Very good English language skills, ability to communicate in one or more local languages a plus;
  • Excellent report writing skills and able to analyse and report market data;
  • Extensive experience with different methodologies of capacity building and human resource management.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands;
  • Have team spirit; able to work with a wide range of people at different levels
  • Have the ability to communicate in a constructive and honest matter;
  • Be precise;
  • Be available, honest, serious, and enjoys the confidence of others;
  • Must demonstrate considerable autonomy;
  • Highly flexible and adaptable;
  • Must be creative and cunning;
  • Must be an experienced manager;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and evening or weekend shifts, when needed.
  • Must be able to identify knowledge and skills gaps and give guidance towards the team according to need.

NB: The job is a consultancy position for the first period of the contract, after the consultancy period the contract will – depending on the performance – to a fixed contract.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Carrying out periodic reviews (at least quarterly) and assessment of identified agribusiness (value addition) enterprises of MAAIF, the Private Sector and Development Partners; and reporting to MAAIF management accordingly.
  • Actively participate in joint agriculture sector Monitoring & Evaluation (M & E) exercises.
  • Conduct strategic studies on value addition of key commodities.
  • Preparing and assessing periodic work plans, objectives, outputs and indicators for the Agricultural Investment Unit.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior Programme Officer – M & E.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the Programme Officer – Monitoring & Evaluation job opportunity should hold an Honors Bachelors’ Degree in Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, or related field from a recognized University/Institution;

About Us:

The Busara Center for Behavioral Economics is an advisory and research organization focused on evaluation and implementation of behavioral interventions in understudied countries and populations. Busara’s mission is to work with researchers and organizations to advance and apply behavioral science in pursuit of poverty alleviation. This involves the application of research and rigorous methods to enable partners to improve program design, evaluate existing programs, and optimize internal processes. To this end, Busara has worked with a variety of organizations in an advisory capacity to apply behavioral insights, build analytical models, and develop new products. In addition, in its research center capacity, Busara operates a Nairobi-based lab capable of implementing advanced experiments in psychology, behavioral economics and other academic disciplines.

Job Summary: The Operations Officer is the primary representative of Busara’s Operations department for our projects in Uganda and is responsible for establishing and running a new office. The Operations Officer will be responsible for setting up and managing operations and administration of our Uganda office and day to day operational support to project teams in country. This includes planning, directing and controlling all activities related to the management of the office, financial management, logistics support and asset/inventory management. The Operations Officer should be a multi-skilled administrator, able to respond to day to day requests as well as plan for longer term operational needs. The Operations Officer must be skilled at managing multiple channels of communication in order to best support project teams. A proactive nature, high attention to detail, commitment to efficiency, familiarity with operations management, and strong communication skills are key success factors for this position.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

Admin:

  • Ensure proper administration of the start-up phase of Busara’s projects in Uganda and all subsequent stages, including setup and management of the Uganda Office
  • Ensure that an effective filing system is in place in the office, and coordinate with project staff to ensure that the project’s resources are effectively and efficiently utilized
  • Maintenance of project documentation, plans and reports
  • Ensure legal compliance and maintain appropriate legal paperwork (e.g. research permits and IRB requirements)
  • Assist in hiring and managing casual staff as project needs arise, performance management, capacity building, leave management and welfare
  • Manage the general upkeep of the office including weekly cleaning and dealing with repairs etc.

Finance:

  • Undertake and support in budgeting and planning, financial management and reporting of overall projects in constant coordination with Senior Project Manager
  • Monitor proper management of cash flow, ensuring project liquidity at all times
  • Process and approve expenditure (imprest, returns and purchase requisitions) for approved work plans and budgets
  • Support in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports for the Uganda office

 Procurement & Logistics:

  • Work in close coordination with the Nairobi office, manage procurement and logistics for the Uganda office, including all in –country project needs
  • Manage and procure office stock including for office furniture, IT equipment, stationery, cleaning materials, airtime, internet, etc.
  • In partnership with the Senior Project Manager, coordinate movement plans in both the field and main offices including booking of hotels, conference facilities, transport of staff etc.
  • Maintain key relationships and contracts with suppliers, and ensure timely processing and payment of bills.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Operations Officer job placement should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in social sciences, economics, development studies and/or business administration
  • A minimum of three years of related work experience in reputable organization. Previous experience with a nonprofit organization would be ideal
  • A good working knowledge of project management with experience in office management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail and familiarity with good practice in operations management
  • A proactive approach to improvement, including a willingness to suggest and implement solutions to operational challenges
  • Flexibility and an ability to quickly respond to needs
  • Demonstrated budgeting, budget monitoring and financial reporting skills
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint). Working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting will be an added advantage

Job Summary: The Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic leadership through working with the Authority and staff to ensure fulfillment of ERA’s mandate.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Stewardship:

  • Work with Authority and Staff to define and execute ERA’s mission, communicate it effectively, and ensure it serves continuously as an inspiration and guide.
  • Develop and recommend short and long term goals, strategies and objectives to the Authority to ensure maximization of stakeholder values and the long term success of the Authority.
  • Work closely with and provide accountability to the Authority , and ensure that the Authority is fully informed about the ongoing business at the Secretariat.
  • Keenly review and report regularly to the Authority matters concerning the Authority’s progress towards achieving its goals and any material deviations from the said goals.
  • Work with the Authority to ensure that it is properly constituted and trained to conduct effective governance.

Staff Management, Motivation and Development:

  • Provide leadership and motivate staff towards fulfilling the mission of ERA.
  • Initiate changes and innovations at ERA.
  • Create a work environment that is conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating a diverse group of top quality employees at all levels and ensure that effective delegation is observed.
  • Develop and maintain a sound and effective organizational structureand ensure that personnel systems are in place to appropriately manage the affairs of the Authority.
  • Ensure that there are clear roles and responsibilities and that there is an effective succession plan for all senior positions.

Ethical Standards and Accountability:

  • Work in liaison with the Authority to ensure adherence to ERA’s ethical standards and encourage transparent culture in which ethical policies are understood, prevent and manage ethical breaches including conflict of interest.
  • Identify the principle risks of the Authority and ensure the implementation of appropriate systems to mitigate/manage them.
  • Work closely with the Authority and staff to ensure adherence to accountability standards.
  • Facilitate the Board to effectively fulfill its functions as well as the various Board Committees and individual Board members.
  • Facilitate the Board to undertake periodic Board evaluation.
  • Work closely with the Board Chairman to ensure and enable the Board to fulfill its governance  and oversight function.

Partnership, Regional Cooperation and Corporate Leadership:

  • Work closely with other agencies in the region for efficient and reliable supply of electricity and identify potential collaboration areas in the region.
  • Ensure a smooth working relationship with Government Ministries and Agencies to properly coordinate, interpret and implement government policies and programs.
  • Ensure that effective Communication and appropriate relationships are maintained between the Authority, stakeholders and the public.

Financial Leadership:

  • Ensure that ERA’s budget is developed in a timely manner for consideration by the Authority. Ensure prudent financial management of ERA’s resources and adherence to prudent internal control systems.
  • Authorize commitments of corporate resources including contracts, transactions and Authority’s strategies, corporate plans and objectives.
  • Take reasonable steps to ensure that the Authority’s assets are adequately safeguarded and optimized in the best interest of all stakeholders.

Compliance Leadership:

  • Ensure strict adherence to the provisions of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) Act in the procurement processes.
  • Ensure that all operations and activities of the Authority are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, good corporate governance principles and practices and any other policies and practices approved by the Authority.
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the Authority and compliance with the Authority’s environmental, health and safety policies, procedures and practices.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant should preferably hold a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Law, Business Administration, Finance, or Management.
  • Membership of a recognized professional body will be an added advantage.
  • Candidates with engineering degrees must be registered with the Engineers Registration Board.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of working experience seven (7) of which must be at a Senior Management level in a credible organization.
  • Extensive knowledge about the Electricity Supply Industry.
  • Be result oriented with very good communication skills.
  • Good research and analytical skills.
  • Good leadership skills, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Age:  Between 40 – 55 years.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Grants Management: Oversee and act as OSIEA’s expert of the grant making process which includes grants applications, documentation and timely submission of grant reports: manage all consultancy contracts: ensure compliance with government regulations and OSIEA requirements on all grant applications; review grants proposals and supporting documents for
  • Training and capacity building: Prepare and deliver external trainings for OSIEA grantees on grants management and compliance; identify professional development and training opportunities for OSIEA staff in grants making; undertake internal trainings for OSIEA staff on grants management systems.
  • Project management: Co-ordinate programs in reviewing eligibility assessment of prospective grantees; ensure that the grants review and award process is in line with OSIEA grants policies and procedures; support programs in the review of financial internal audit reports.

  • Grant policy making: Formulate and review grant policies and procedures; assist in managing fraud and implementing whistle blowing policy and protocol.
  • Grant monitoring & evaluation: Design and execute grantee monitoring processes, including conducting assessments and site visits; collecting and analysing data, documenting results, identifying and discussing implications; proactively interprete and assess grantee gaps, provide technical assistance as necessary.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold an advanced degree in a relevant field such as Accounting, Finance, Project Management and Business Administration.

Job Summary: The Field Associate will keep frequent internal contacts with staff members in the same duty station to exchange information, to establish understanding of respective needs; to ensure provision of services and resolution of problems and with the external contacts generally with officials of national and international institutions, leaders of the refugee community, local population and/or Implementing Partners (IPs) on subject matters which may be of importance to the Organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Regularly monitor the situation in the AoR, collect data and other information relevant to UNHCR and report to the supervisor accordingly.
  • Routinely monitor the implementation of UNHCR programme including the delivery of all assistance items and monitoring of infrastructure.
  • Carry out regular visits to various sites in order to assess needs of persons of concern, with particular attention to vulnerable groups.
  • Keep regular contacts with local authorities and implementing partners as requested by supervisor.
  • Serve as an interpreter when required.
  • Significantly contribute to the preparation of status and progress reports by providing info, preparing tables, etc.
  • Provide support in administrative tasks as required such as preparation of reports and meeting authorized personnel and assisting them during field missions.
  • Inform and act on the reports received on persons of concern within the refugee community or from the local authorities.
  • Work in liaison with implementing partners, assist in the reception, registration and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR.
  • Undertake other relevant duties as required.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • UNHCR policies, standards and procedures are constantly and coherently applied in the area of responsibility (AoR).
  • The needs of persons of concern in the AoR are assessed and analysed in a Participatory manner and using an Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective to form a firm basis for planning.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNHCR Field Associate job opportunity should have completed Secondary Education with post-secondary training/certificate in Business Administration, Law, Political Science or related field.
  • At least six years of previous job experience relevant to the function.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Completion of UNHCR learning programmes or specific training relevant to functions of the position is desirable
  • Prior UNHCR field experience is an advantage
