Despite a slow start to life in Italy following his move from Real Madrid, Mr. Record breaker Cristiano Ronaldo has now equalled a 60-year-old goalscoring record at Juventus.

The Portuguese failed to find the back of the net in his first three matches in Serie A, before finally breaking his duck with a brace against Sassuolo in September.

Since then, Ronaldo has been among the goals regularly in Italy, adding another two to his tally in his side’s 2-1 win over Genoa on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo has now equalled a 60-year-old goalscoring record at Juventus

According to the Daily Mirror, the 33-year-old has now scored seven league goals in his first 10 matches for the Bianconeri, becoming only the second player to achieve that ratio at Juve since John Charles, who did so in the 1957/58 season.

Charles ended his debut campaign with the Italian giants with 28 strikes, a tally Ronaldo will be backing himself to better this season.

A host of top names came close to the same feat for Juve, but fell short of the mark, including Gonzalo Higuain, Carlos Tevez and Filippo Inzaghi, who all managed six strikes in their first 10 Serie A matches for the club.

Meanwhile, Alessandro Del Piero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Trezeguet all scored five goals in their first 10 league outings for the Bianconeri.

Juventus and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has named his five favourites for this year’s Ballon d’Or including one African, but snubbed hoary rival Lionel Messi.

The prestigious Golden Ball will be handed out by France Football on 3 December, and many believe there could be a new winner for the first time in 10 years, with Luka Modric having already picked up the UEFA Player of the Year and FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player awards this year.

Ronaldo and Messi have shared the Ballon d’Or between them since 2008, each winning it five times, and while the Portuguese forward dreams of beating Messi to lift his sixth Golden Ball, he does not count the Argentine among this year’s favourites.

Ronaldo and Messi have shared the Ballon d’Or between them since 2008 each winning it five times

“The same as usual, even if I don’t know if Messi will be on the podium this time,” he told France Football when asked about his favourites.

“So, let’s say Mohamed Salah, Luka Modric, Antoine Griezmann, Raphael Varane, Kylian Mbappe – the French in general because they are world champions.”

However, despite not choosing Messi as a favourite for this year’s Golden Ball, Ronaldo did praise the Argentine for reigning alongside him at the top of the game over the past 10 years, and questioned whether the current crop can be at the top as long.

“But I will wait and see if all these players are still at the top in 10 years, like Messi and I have done, and like we continue to do,” he added.

“Still there, on the podium, since more than 10 years.”

Former Real Madrid and Liverpool star, Steve McManaman has said that the Los Blancos’ failure to bring in a top-class replacement for forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has hurt them.

Ronaldo left Madrid as their all-time highest goalscorer to join the Serie A champions, Juventus last summer in a 100-million-euro deal. McManaman stated this after Madrid were defeated 5-1 by Barcelona in the El Clasico La Liga fixture played on Sunday.

Goals from Luiz Suarez (3), Philippe Coutinho (1) and Arturo Vidal (1) ensured victory for the Catalan club at the Camp Nou. Marcelo’s lone strike was not enough to get a point for the visitors.

McManaman said it was now necessary that the Santiago Bernabeu club must reinforce their squad in the January transfer window to turn things around.

McManaman reveals what Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence has done to Real Madrid

“Everybody was surprised, weren’t they?” McManaman told Reuters on Monday.

“They took a long, long time to bring in new signings. They didn’t bring anyone to replace Cristiano.

“It was a big shock for everybody. Whether they could buy somebody of his quality, I don’t know.

“The fact that they didn’t bring anybody in and they did slow business in the centre forward area, it surprised everybody.”

McManaman added, “They probably need to refresh the team a bit more, to be very honest. They have kept the majority of the same team for the last couple of years.

“If you look at the age group of the Real Madrid players now, four or five of them are in the 30’s. It’s probably the time to start refreshing it and bring in more players and try and replicate the success.

“They have got a hard job on their hands. They are not playing well, the manager is under pressure and the team as well. They need to do something and need to do it quickly.”

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 400 goals in Europe’s top five leagues as Juventus dropped points for the first time this season when they made a 1-1 draw against Genoa.

Ronaldo’s fifth Serie A goal for Juventus was added to his 84 Premier League goals he scored for Manchester United and 311 in La Liga for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo scored the goal tapping in from close range after Genoa failed to clear their lines when Joao Cancelo‘s shot took an awkward deflection inside the box.

Ronaldo’s milestone puts him 10 goals above the second top scorer in Europe’s main leagues, Lionel Messi – who scored his 390th La Liga goal for Barcelona in their 4-2 win against Sevilla.

However, Juventus’ perfect start to the season came to an end in Turin on Saturday as Genoa earned a 1-1 draw and the visitors dropped the first points this season.

The hosts dominated most of the game having 21 shots but only three were on target – all from Ronaldo, who had 11 efforts in total in the first half of the game. The draw left the defending champions four points above second-placed Napoli who won 3-0 against Udinese later on Saturday.

With an average of just 1.7 goals per game, the Los Bloncos have the lowest goalscoring average of any Real Madrid team in the past decade.

They may have scored 10 times across their first three LaLiga Santander matches, but they have now failed to do so at all in their past three fixtures, away at Sevilla, at home against Atletico Madrid and away at CSKA Moscow.

Real Madrid

Real suffered a shock 1-0 defeat away at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday

In fact, it’s not been 319 minutes since they hit the back of the net, which is over five hours.

In 2018/19, they’re only netting once every 52 minutes, quite a difference from the rate of once every 30 minutes set in 2011/12.

This is a clear evidence that the Madrid giants are missing Portuguese Super star Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 44 in 44 games last season.

The current Madrid’s trio which consists of Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio, together scored 44 goals just like the now Juventus Talisman came up with last season with Bale scoring 21 goals, Benzema 12 and Asensio 11.

The question that needs to be asked is whether or not this team will be able to win tight matches if they find it difficult to score.

Real Madrid footballer Dani Ceballos opened up to Radio MARCA about life as a Los Blancos player and he made it clear that he was unhappy at the way he was dealt with by Zinedine Zidane.

The style that the team had under Zidane might have worked well but for Ceballos in particular, it was obvious that the French head coach preferred other players rather than him.

“During the regular season, I felt frustration and resentment towards Zidane,” he explained.

Dani Ceballos and Zinedine Zidane

“During the regular season, I felt frustration and resentment towards Zidane.” Said Ceballos

“There was a moment in the season when both Kroos and Modric were injured but he opted to change the style of play to bring in others players instead. It burns you a little and hurts you. We were 15 points behind Barca and only had the Champions League to look forward to but I also did not enter those dynamics.”

Despite being overlooked last season, Ceballos remains positive for what the 2018-19 season can bring under new head coach,Julen Lopetegui.

“He is trying to impose his style, which is different from the one we had last year,” he stated.

“He wants a serious team who is ambitious with the ball. He likes to play with lots of possession and an attacking instinct.”

While the change in Real Madrid’s style of play is shifting, Ceballos made sure to reiterate that Lopetegui stands as a good replacement saying he is the “best coach we could have” after Zinedine Zidane’s departure.

Ceballos talking to Radio Marca

“Last year was not a good year for me, but as a footballer I have matured because of the situation,” he continued.

“My goal is to triumph at Real Madrid, as I have said, now I want to give back to the club.”

Ceballos also discussed how while he wants to develop at Real Madrid, he still feels a part of Real Betis, his former club which he left only a few years ago.

“Someday you will know the reality of why I left Betis and you will see I am not a bad guy,” he revealed.

“I watch all the matches and celebrate their goals as if I’m still on the pitch with the team. It happened to Sergio Ramos when he left Sevilla, he still asks how they are and supports them. Your first team is always in your veins and you become strung between the old and new.”

Eventually the topic in question turned to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and his recent comments in the press.

Ceballos told Radio MARCA that Real Madrid has, and will remain, a family like atmosphere for all players after Ronaldo’s words about Juve’s locker room.

Dani Ceballos

“We have always been a family. I do not know if his words were addressed to Real Madrid directly but last year, there was no issues between us and him. He had a good atmosphere with the rest of his teammates,” said Ceballos.

“At Real Madrid that has always been great players, Cristiano is no longer here but the team is still working. Benzema, Asensio and Bale are stepping up and throwing the team on their backs. Cristiano’s 40 goals are gone but the top players can do it.”

The Portugal boss believes his star man should have been crowned UEFA’s Player of the Year after losing out to the Croatian. Cristiano Ronaldo and not Luka Modric should have been crowned UEFA’s 2017-18 Player of the Year, according to Portugal head coach Fernando Santos.

According to Santos, Cristiano Ronaldo should have been crowned UEFA’s 2017-18 Player of the Year

Ronaldo scored 15 goals to lead Real Madrid to a third successive Champions League crown last season but the five-time Ballon d’Or winner lost out to former team-mate Modric.

Modric won the most votes from coaches and journalists as Ronaldo – who left Madrid for Italian champions Juventus in the off-season – opted to skip the Monaco ceremony last month.

Asked about the decision to overlook Portugal captain Ronaldo, Santos told reporters: “The vote for the best of FIFA is not mine. If it was mine, Ronaldo was the champion.

 Luka Modric

Modric won the most votes from coaches and journalists to take the award

“Ronaldo is the champion for me. And in second place, I’d put Modric. But the rest of votes come from the public, journalists, other coaches, there are many people, so the decision will be announced at the right date.

“There’s a previous list, as I’ve already said, Modric is a fantastic player, that’s why I’ve put him in second. But in this previous election, I think Cristiano should’ve been the winner for all he did at that period of time and specially at the Champions League.”

Santos will be without Ronaldo – who is yet to open his Juventus account – for Portugal’s Nations League match against Italy on September 10. It is Portugal’s first appearance since the World Cup, where the European champions suffered a last-16 exit to Uruguay in Sochi.

“Portugal is a national squad with Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s European champion, the best player in the world. So, Cristiano Ronaldo, such as Joao Moutinho and all the others, Andre Gomes etc, I won’t name them all, they are all very important in this team,” Santos added.

“They achieved an extraordinary triumph for Portugal, they made history. A group of players that have played here and only lost twice, so there’s no with or without Ronaldo. And Ronaldo will be in conditions to play with us for a long time.”

Gonzalo Higuain is the second highest earner

Despite his failure to score, it comes as no surprise that Ronaldo is top of the rankings when it comes to earnings, but the wage gap between the Juventus star and the rest of the league is quite astonishing.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed the wages of all Serie A players, with the 33-year-old taking home far more than any of his team-mates or rivals. Ronaldo is earning an incredible €31 million (£28m/$36m) per season in Turin and is on a four-year deal with the reigning Serie A champions.
