Our Mission is to empower asylum seekers, refugees, deportees, IDPs and host communities in Uganda to enjoy their human rights and lead dignified lives. The Refugee Law Project has an active anti-discrimination policy; Women, Persons with Disability and sexual minorities are encouraged to apply.

We are seeking;

1) Senior Researcher –  Kitgum (1) to assist in development and design of Kitgum Peace Documentation

Centre research agenda, research delivery mechanisms and commissioning of policy research. S/he hould posses’ intellectual leadership in the fields of Conflict, Human Rights, Transitional Justice and or Forensic  Anthropology, preferably by Masters Degree in Law,  Conflict Studies and or Community Psychology. S/he should be able to demonstrate field research experience as well as group facilitation skills, and be conversant with the main computer applications such as EPI-info, SPSS. Proof of published works is highly desirable.

 

2) Senior Communications & Media Officer – Kitgum (1) to undertake a communication assessment and as a result develop and implement Kitgum Peace Documentation Centres’ communication and Advocacy strategy. This requires excellence in originating and preparing written material such as issue briefings, manuals, as well as layouts for use in various communication media. Experience working in videography and photography are a MUST. S/he should possess a Masters degree in Communication, Journalism, and Public Relations. Knowledge of transitional justice, conflict and migration are an added advantage.

3) SGBVP Lawyer Kotido (1) to provide legal advice and rerpesentation to SGBPV survivors and to refer before various organisations working with SGBPV survivors and in courts of law; Write reports that include statistical analysis of pattern of challenges received by the department. S/he should posses a Bachelor of Laws Degree and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Must be an enrolled advocate of the High court of Uganda. At least 2 years experience in the human rights field. Knowledge of Luo, Swahili and Ngakarimojong is highly desirable.

4) SGBVP Legal Researcher Gulu (1) to design and conduct legal research on access to justice for SGBPV survivors on issues of protection; analyse data and write reports including statistical analyses of patterns and challenges observed. S/he should have working knowledge of and experience conducting research and posses a Bachelor of Laws Degree and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre; must be an enrolled advocate of the High court of Uganda. At least 2 years experience in the human rights field. Knowledge of Luo and Swahili is highly desirable.

5) SGBVP Researcher Gulu (1) to carry out research on access to justice for SGBPV survivors on issues of protection; analyse data and write reports including statistical analyses of patterns and challenges observed.

S/he should have working knowledge of and experience conducting research and posses a Bachelor of Social Sciences or Development Studies Degree; must possess experience conducting research. At least 2 years experience in the human rights field. Knowledge of Luo and Swahili is highly desirable.

6) SGBVP Social Worker – Kotido (1) to assist in developing and implementing the client care and management system. Assist in researching and preparation of reports. Assist in designing managing and growing the client database. Managing referrals and making follow-ups. S/he should have demonstrated counselling, group facilitation, networking skills, as well as deep familiarity with issues of sexual  violence, sexual rights, stigma and discrimination. Experience working in Karamoja is an added advantage, as arelanguage skills in Ngakarimojong etc.

7) Personal Assistant (1) to work with the Director and Management Team in managing appointments, correspondence, travel arrangements, briefings and  updates, logistics. S/he must have strong computer literacy, demonstrated administrative experience, excellent people and networking skills, strong attention to detail, and a strong personal commitment to human rights and social justice. A social science degree with an administration component will be an added advantage, as will language skills (particularly Swahili) and a valid driving permit. 8) Volunteer Lawyer – Durable Solutions (2) to conduct assessment and interviews of RSD clients, draft requests for review of cases and appeals; and formulate recommendations for decisions by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and court where necessary. S/he should be an advocate of the High court of Uganda and must be conversant with the international refugee law, regional law and human rights more generally.

9) Volunteer Lawyer – Access to Justice Kampala (1),  to be involved in intake of refugee claims, representation of refugees and asylums seekers before the courts and other relevant agencies. S/he should  be an advocate of the High Court of Uganda.

10)Volunteer Lawyer – Access to Justice Gulu (1),  to be involved in intake of SGBVP survivors claims and  representation before the courts and other relevant agencies. S/he should be an advocate of the High Court of Uganda.

11)Receptionist – Kitgum (1) to man the KPDC telephone switchboard, receive and  place incoming and outgoing calls, receive and distribute communication between and among staff and the public. S/he should posses a Diploma in Secretarial studies

12)Security Guards – Kampala (3), Kitgum (2) to ensure the safety of staff and properties of the RLP and/or the KPDC at all times. S/he must have attained a Uganda Certificate of Education.

13)Driver/Logistician – Gulu (1) to ensure that staff, Clients and RLP property are transported promptly as scheduled. S/he must have attained a Uganda Certificate of Education and must posses a minimum of fiveyears driving experience.
