The police in Uganda have threatened to bring to book anyone who will stage a demonstration against President Museveni’s alleged giveaway of Mabira national forest.
Last week President Museveni said he would give Mehta Sugar Corporation some hectares of land on Mabira forest land to grow sugar canes in order to increase sugar supply in the country. However, the opposition politicians are said to have objected the President’s proposal.
Iddi Senkumbi the police spokesperson Kampala metropolitan region says that the police have landed on the opposition politicians’ plans to carry on demonstrations adding that the police will not allow any protests in Kampala and other parts of the country.
In 2007 a score of people died and a number of others injured in protests against President’s offer of part of the same forest. After seeing the situation turning bloody President Museveni reversed his offer and calm returned in the country.
