Transparency International invites entries from youths across the world for the Transparency International Youth Photo Competition aimed at fighting corruption worldwide.

With corruption having scathing effects that can be difficult to illustrate, Transparency International is looking for photos to give a powerful image of how corruption affects people’s lives. The theme of the competition is to: Illustrate the negative effects that corruption has on your world.

Worth of Awards

Three prizes are up for grabs. The jury will select three winners and award each one of the following:

First – A paid trip to Berlin to participate in a Transparency International event in November; up to €1,000 worth of camera equipment; work published on Thomson Reuters Foundation;

Second – work published on Thomson Reuters Foundation; up to €400 worth of camera equipment

Third – work published on Thomson Reuters Foundation; up to €250 worth of camera equipment

Eligibility

Whether you’re a student who photographs as a hobby, a professional photographer or are just looking for inspiration to use your new camera –  they encourage everyone to apply.

In order to be an eligible participant of the youth photo competition, applicants MUST:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age
  • Submit a photo in digital format. No print or video submissions will be accepted.

The photos will be judged using the following criteria:

  • Impact – compelling subject matter and caption
  • Artistic interpretation – composition, style
  • Technical skills – focus, colour, use of light
  • Transparency International, its chapter affiliates, and Water Integrity Network staff are ineligible for competition.

How to Apply

  • Each entrant may submit a maximum of 2 photographs, in digital formats (JPEG / GIF / PNG). All photos must be in digital format. We also accept mobile photography entries.
  • Minimum resolution of 300 DPI is required.
  • Photo submissions should be unpublished.
  • By submitting an entry, the contestant confirms that he/she owns the right to all his/her photographs and that the rights of persons included in his/her photographs have not been violated. Entries depicting violence, racism or pornography will result in immediate disqualification.

Captions are critical. Each photo must be accompanied with a short conceptualization caption (maximum 600 characters). Well-written captions are needed so that judges understand the image’s context. Arabic, French, English, German and Spanish languages accepted.

Deadline: The deadline for submissions is July 1.

The winners will be announced on International Youth Day, 12 August  and will receive a certificate.
