A Ugandan development activist has appealed to all Ugandans to register and vote in the upcoming 2011 general elections so as to help in shaping the destiny of their country.
Eunice Musiime an official with Uganda NGO forum says people determine the state of their roads, health system, living costs when they exercise their fundamental right to vote.
Musiime adds, voters should not take their vote lightly, in spite of the many frustrations in the electoral process since it can change the outcome of the election citing the recent election of Betty Nambooze for the Mukono North parliamentary by-elections despite allegations of bribery and intimidation.
She appealed to voters to make their issues clear to the candidates before casting their votes and encourage others to vote because discouraging them from voting makes their opponents to win.
According to media reports, nearly more than 2 million eligible voters haven’t registered and 1.6 million Ugandans might not vote in the 2011 if the exercise is not extended beyond the Electoral Commission deadline of June 14.
