MPs on the committee of legal and parliamentary affairs have asked the ministry of finance to urgently find money to have the Uganda human rights commission relocate from the office were they are currently housed.
The chairperson of the committee Steven Tashobya says the current buildings on Buganda road where the commission is housed is in a dilapidated state and could fall on the occupants any time.
Tashobya says the commission had requested for 600 million shillings from government to enable them have an alternative offices but the money has not been provided in their budget for this financial year 2011 to 2012.
Tashobya adds that the ministry of finance has also ignored the recommendations made by this committee to offset the money owed to government inform of compensations and court awards yet the money was accumulating interest.
He says out of the 196 billion shillings in court awards and compensations the ministry of finance has provide only 4.3 billion shillings during this financial year.
