With fast changing climate trends in the country and around the globe which have continued to impact negatively on agriculture, and now farmers resorting to using improved seeds which have turned problematic, there are now demands for by-laws at district level to help check on the quality of agriculture inputs used currently.
In a meeting organized by DENIVA to discuss effects of climate change and how farmers can adapt to new farming technologies to overcome the impacts of climate change, the head of advocacy and information dissemination in DENIVA, Andrew Byaruhanga, says such laws will go a long way to help farmers get the right seed for planting for them to harvest quality and quantity yields. He further mentions that government officials and investors are wrongly using their position to degrade the environment which in the long run caused climate change which greatly affects the local farmers.
DENIVA and the farmers are now requesting government to fully implement all climate change policies and environment protection laws to save the country from continuing to register climate change shocks.
