Religious leaders up against male circumcision campaign

Church leaders in Bushenyi district have rejected safe male circumcision saying the practice continues the decadency in people’s moral standards,

Religious leaders say medical people will have packaged their massage about male circumcision to encourage people to practice sexual immorality.

Church leaders mentioned preaching faithfulness for married couples and call for abstinence for the pre-marital sex as the key strategies to prevent HIV infection.

The Archdeacon of All Saints church in Bushenyi, reverend canon Tibikoma Norbert says the church can’t compromise its stand on morality by supporting the safe male circumcision campaign.

The government is currently promoting male circumcision as another key strategy in the fight against HIV spread after medical studies confirmed that circumcised men are less likely to get infected or infect their sexual partners with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

However, Reverend Tibikoma says that the packaging of the campaign gives people the license of committing more adultery and sexual promiscuity among the youth.
