The chairperson of national council for children Louis Biira Bwambale has challenged parents to champion anew campaign to reduce a new HIV affection among the children and married couples.
A report from the UN Aids body indicates an increase in the HIV prevalence among married couples and children who get infected during birth. The report also noted an increase in HIV infection among young girls and called for measures to protect young girls from HIV infection.
Bwambale says parents should discuss with their children on issues pertaining HIV/AIDS scourge.
She was speaking after Uganda yesterday joined the rest of the world to mark the world aids day that was held at Kitebi primary school in Kampala.
The theme of this year’s day was “Universal Access and Human Rights” to stress the importance of access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care services.
U.S Ambassador to Uganda Jerry P. Lanier said his government will continue to fund provision of anti retroviral drugs.
Ambassador Laniar has further urged the government of Uganda to resume on the central role in leading the national response on health in general and the HIV/AIDS in particular.
He says there is need for increased investment in leadership and coordination at all level and advised government to draw roadmap cooperation towards joint strategic frame work for link to the national HIV/AIDS strategic plan and the new national health sector strategic investment plan.
