Attorney General: I fight Lukwago just to please Museveni

The Attorney General Peter Nyombi has petitioned the High Court of Uganda in Kampala requesting it to stay its proceedings in the Erias Lukwago tribunal report case until the Court of Appeal also in Kampala pronounces itself on an appeal against Justice Yasin Nyanzi’s decision to hear the case.

Nyombi filed an application at the court on Friday. The application is a result of Justice Nyanzi’s decision of February 4th 2014, when the judge refused to step aside from hearing the case after the attorney general accused the judge of bias.

State attorney Imelda Adong has sworn an affidavit in support of the attorney general’s application. Nyombi, who the court last week said he needs to go for refresher court because he doesn’t know the law, says it would be illogical for Nyanzi to hear the case when an appeal against his decision is pending.
