Central African Republic’s Djotodia resigns as sporaant gunfire captures Bangui

 

Central African Republic‘s (CAR) President Michel Djotodia has resigned. the Africa’s regional leaders put pressure on him to resign due to increasing insecurity in his country.

The person to replace Djotodia will be selected among the rebel groups fighting in CAR.

Groups of people in Bangui who have been calling for Djotodia to step down began celebrating on hearing Djotodia’s resignation.

Djotodia came to  power last year when a rebel alliance known as Seleka seized the capital of CAR.

President Djotodia resigned at a regional summit in Chad aimed at ending violence in CAR.
