Eviction of Nakawa Naguru tenants criticised

Kampala Capital City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is going to investigate how the staffs of Kampala Capital City Authority were used to raze down the building during the eviction of Nakawa Naguru residents without his knowledge.

Lukwago while addressing Journalists at Parliament condemned the force which was applied to evict the residents which he said was inhuman and an explanation must be given.

He said Kampala City Authority law enforcement officers were used without consulting him as the Lord Mayor which he said has made his work so difficult.

About 100 families were affected in yesterday’s demolition, while an estimated 1,760 families will be homeless and it is said a private developer has been given the green light to develop the estates into a satellite city but the fate of the affected people is not yet known for their next destination.
