Government asked to curtail increasing cases of child prostitution

The Members of Parliament have raised concerns over the increasing cases of child sexual exploitation and are demanding for implementation of child protection laws.

The Uganda Youth Development Link today organized a sensitization workshop for the MPs, with calls on the implementation of the Trafficking of Persons Act, which was passed in 2009.

In its report, Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in Uganda, child prostitution and slavery topped the list of cases.

Bukoto Mid West MP, Isaac Ssejjoba says the only way government can get rid of such vices is through coming up with tough laws on individuals involved encouraging child prostitution, as well as implement the Trafficking in Persons Act.

The government was also urged to investment more in social services like education and healthcare that benefit young people and give them options against engaging unbecoming acts like prostitution.
