Government to build modern isolation centers at Mulago and Entebbe hospitals

The government will put two modern isolation facilities at Mulago and Entebbe hospitals to handle avian influenza and other deadly and unique diseases like Ebola.

The Commissioner for Health Services, Dr. Dennis Lwamafa says that land has been secure and consultancy firms contacted for design work.

 

Lwamafa says that after the installation of the facility, the Uganda Virus Research Institute will be upgraded from boi-safety level P2 to P3 meaning that the institute will be handling clinical diagnostic research on highly toxic cases.

In the recent years the ministry of health has recorded various unique and deadly diseases like bird flu according to Dr. Lwamafa.

He says that the project will be implemented by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Office of the prime Minister.

He adds that the project will cost the government 28 billion shillings that will be acquired from the World Bank as a loan. Lwamafa says that the facilities are expected to be complete by July 2012.
