Over 40% of school girls carrying out induced abortion

Health workers in Ibanda district have decried increasing cases of induced abortion among underage girls in the district.

Musiime Agnes a midwife at Ibanda hospital Kagongo says over 40% of school girls carry out induced abortion in Ibanda district.

A 16year old senior two girl at St Ann ’s secondary school in Ibanda district becomes the recent victim of induced abortion.

The minor explained that she was forced to carry out an induced abortion using traditional methods because she wanted to go back to school to pursue her studies, after she realiszed that the man who made her pregnant, an S.4 student of the same school had gone into hiding.

The girl developed complication in the abdominal that prompted her mother Mrs. Naruhinda to rush her to Ibanda hospital – Kagongo to seek medical advice.

However medical doctors discovered sharp sticks in the victim’s private parts and tests revealed that the fetus was six months old.

By press time, the 16 year old girl was still admitted at Ibanda hospital Kagongo with a two day premature baby girl in an incubator under intensive care.

Musiime says that cases of induced abortion are on increase among school girl child and HIV positive mothers in the district.

She said that for the last one month, the hospital has registered four cases out of which three are school girls.
