Uganda Parliament considers malaria forum

Parliament has approved a motion for the creation of a special forum on malaria, the leading single killer disease in Uganda.

The motion, presented by Jinja West MP, Moses Balyeku, seeks for the establishment of the forum to tackle issues to do with malaria in the country.

Balyeku noted that malaria is one of the killer diseases in the country, after HIV/ AIDS and requires special attention.

Kinkizi East MP, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi supported the motion, noting that emphasis should be placed on giving support to the fight against malaria, especially among the young children.

However, there was some resistance from some opposition MPs with Aswa County MP, Reagan Okumu noting that some of the parliamentary for a have been redundant, adding that such issues should be left to the line committees.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga directed that the matter be put before the HIV/AIDS and related matters committee for consideration.
