Uganda parliament Speaker, Edward Ssekandi

According to Jorum Kisembo who represented other students said that the government scholarship scheme has failed to play its role and therefore it should be dropped.

He said that the scheme in its current form favors those who are from well to do families since they are the ones who have the capacity to go to better schools.

Kisembo says that instead of paying for those that have passed highly; the government should instead improve on the district quota system and increase the number of students being sponsored from the districts.

Meanwhile, the Speaker admitted that there is a weakness in the scheme but called for the round table discussion of all the stake holders.

He said that the subject is too broad and can only be solved through discussions between the government and different key players.

He promised to forward the petition to the parliamentary committee on social services in order for it to be given enough attention by parliament.
