Ugandan lakes to be restocked with new fish species

The Commissioner for Fisheries resources in the ministry of agriculture animal industry and fisheries Dr. Wilson Mwanja has revealed plans to restock Lakes Victoria, Kyoga, George and Albert with new fish species.

Dr. Mwanja was speaking during the annual research review and planning meeting for scientists and fisheries officers held at Kajansi in Wakiso.

He said fish stocks in all the lakes has reduced and that the government is hoping the restocking exercise will increase fish production.

The meeting was held under the theme “consolidating the stakeholder’s views and fisheries research for national development”.
