Youngest MP in Africa, Oromait defended

The recent election into parliament of Usuk county (Katakwi District) MP, Proscovia Alengot Oromait  raised so many questions. Ms Oromait, 19, is believed to be the youngest MP in Africa.
“Can she sit on parliamentary committees? Can she debate issues with sufficient clarity and intelligence? What sort of MP will such an inexperienced young lady make?” these are some of the questions many people have asked in different foras.
But who are the critics of ms Oromait kidding? Over the years, Ugandans have sent DJs, housewives, peasant farmers, war mercenaries, first ladies and first girlfriend’s to parliament, whose skills as MPs have been as blunt as pieces of wood.
Ugandans have seen the nature of debates that go on in parliament and many Ugandans know that with the exception of a few MPs, majority of parliamentarians are incompetent dimwits.
So if Baby Alengot turns out to be incompetent, she will be as good as her co-MPs, if not, brace yourself for a great politician in the making.
