Regional IGAD Speaker’s meeting wants peace in South Sudan

South Sudan former Vice President, Riek Machar has been warned by IPU-IGAD member states to stop disrupting peace in that Country.

This came after the delegation from South Sudan notifying members at a regional meeting of IGAD Speakers in Kamuli that ever since Machar fled the country peace has been restored and there’s fear once he returns violence may reface.

They further appealed to IGAD to pass a resolution banning Machar from returning in the country which the chair of IPU-IGAD Rebecca Kadaga rejected saying they can’t rule upon other countries independency.

However, the summit has appealed to Machar on return to focus on restoration of peace and reconciliation.

Furthermore the summit while closing today has passes resolutions to implement before the sitting of other summit that will be in Sudan.

On reading the resolutions by IPU-IGAD secretary general, the summit has further resolved that Somalia and Kenya should ensure peace in the next year’s elections, recognize women and youth rights, member states to contribute their fee on time, honor of IPU-IGAD objectives among others.
