Opposition leaders Muntu, Mafabi manage to walk to work this Thursday

Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, the Forum for Democratic Change Secretary for Mobilisation has managed to walk smoothly to work without police interference which he says was good for the day calling on the government to do the same to others who decide to walk to work.

Muntu who arrived at parliament at around 9am wants the government to act responsibly and allow nationals to exercise their rights than running after them in which process many have lost their lives.

He adds that this activity is not partisan since prices affect all people and its upon this matter that he demands govt to look into putting in place things that nationals demand for.

In another development Budadiri West Member of Parliament also successfully walked from his home at Kyambogo in Nakawa division to his office in parliament. He covered a distance of about 3 kilometers on foot.

Nandala Mafabi who has been arrested for walking to work on three occasions said he was not going to stop to walk to work until fuel and other prices are lowered.

The MP walked passed Jinja Road Police station without any hindrance. During the walk, he had bodaboda cyclists pushing their bikes behind him.

Later Mafabi was joined by Kumi county MP Amuriat Oboi Patrick. Both walked as Police looked on.

Amuriat said that police at last has realized that using live bullets and teargas was not necessary to stop people walking.

The walk to work protests against high food and commodity prices in Uganda are continuing every Monday and Thursday, despite many opposition leaders getting arrested and or injured in scuffles with police that have also resulted in death of at least five people.
