Hailstorm destroys crops in Masaka

Hailstorm has destroyed several hectares of crops in different parts of Masaka district today morning. Masaka is located in central Uganda.

The farmers whose crops destroyed have said the most affected crops are maize, beans, cassava and rice crops.

Uganda is currently receiving heavy rains. John Mugerwa, a farmer in Mbirizi says that his four hectares of maize and cassava have been destroyed by hailstorm. This farmer says he has been working hard to get money to take back his children to school.
He says his five children might drop school because the hailstorm has destroyed his only source of income.

The farmers have called upon the central government and donors to assist them in this chaotic situation.
