The Ministry of Agriculture, Animals and Fisheries has sent out a strong warning to individuals involved in illicit trade of immature fish that their days are numbered.

The State Minister for Fisheries in Uganda, Fred Mukisa says that a racket of businesspersons have continued to harass fisheries enforcement officers at the landing and fishing sites to boost their illegal trade.

Mukisa says that these individuals many times threaten the district fisheries officials, making them finding it hard to execute their work.

The Minister says people dealing in illicit trade have led to loss of billions of shillings.

Mukisa also says that the same individuals dealing in illicit trade are working to have him removed from his position as state minister for fisheries.

Mukisa says that his ministry will liaise with the Internal Affairs ministry and the Uganda Police force to ensure that persons involved in illicit fish trade and sale of immature fish are arrested and prosecuted.
