Uganda to host AU meeting

The Minister of Uganda for Internal Affairs, Sam Kutesa has said preparations for Uganda to host the African Union (AU) summit in June are in final stages.

The AU meeting in Kampala will attract over 20 heads of states in Africa.

He said the AU commissioner; Jean Ping is in the country assessing the preparations for the meeting.

 
Uganda was chosen to host the 2010 AU summit during the 11th AU meeting in Egypt in July 2008.

The minister says the meeting will run under the theme “Maternal, Infant and Child Health and Development in Africa”.

He says the theme for the summit was developed from the millennium development goals.

The meeting will cover peace, security, infrastructure, energy, agriculture and food security among other issues.

The meeting will also review the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The meeting will kick off on May 31 to June 11 in Munyonyo, Kampala.
