The President General of the Democratic Party, Norbert Mao has urged the Uganda People’s Defence Forces to be non partisan and to have a national outlook rather than being identified with the regime that is in power as the regime’s army.
He says though the UPDF has tremendously improved in terms of professionalism as an army, there have been doubts from the opposition that the UPDF is capable of serving any other regime once the government that is power is voted out of power.
Mao has told Ultimate Media that UPDF should work hard to be identified as National Army rather than a regime army that will only serve this regime that is in power and its interests.
He says it is desirable that such a professional army clearly indicates to the country through its operations that it is capable of serving another regime even if this regime was to be voted out of
But the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen, Aronda Nyakairima has on several occasions insisted that the Uganda army is a national army and will serve the interests of Ugandan, including any elected government.
