A new report released today indicates that 86% of Ugandans are keen to participate in the 2011 general elections, pointing to a possibility of a big voter turn up.

The report was released by Synovate Uganda, a research firm, after a survey conducted across the country.

The Synovate field manager John Kavuma says majority of Ugandans talked to in the survey expressed keen interest in the elections, beginning with registration exercise.

The same report also shows the police as the least trusted institution in the country, while religious leaders attracted more public trust, with 90% of the respondents attesting to the same.

On poverty, the report indicates that 36% of Ugandans still live on less than a dollar per day, but the figure shows a reduction from 42 percent registered the previous year.

Over 1, 900 respondents participated in the survey, 66% of whom were from the rural communities while 34 percent were from urban centers.
