EASSI begins campaign for an East African Protocol on Gender Equality

FOWODE wants women in leadership positions

The East African Sub- regional Support Initiative has began the campaign for an East African Protocol on Gender Equality.

The Campaign will principally aim at advocating, lobbying and sensitization on a unifying and binding legal instrument that consolidates into one document the broader international and regional policies and laws that advocate for gender law.

EASSI has said in press statement that Ultimate Media has seen that it will do this consultation with key stakeholders in the different countries on issues related to gender parity in the East African region and through research and policy analysis of aspects affecting women in the region.

EASSI says it hopes the campaign that encompasses both men and women will go a long way in addressing the issue of gender equality in the region since it is one of the few issues in East Africa that has not been given the much needed attention from the East African Community.

EASSI is a Civil Society Organisation that was established with the principal aim of promoting gender equality, social justice, peace and development in the East African region.
