African Leadership Institute wants to assess performance of Uganda Judiciary

The African Leadership Institute is to negotiate with the Judiciary in Uganda such that it can be allowed to assess the performance of the judges and magistrates in the country.

This comes after AFLI released a partial report of its third Parliamentary scorecard assessment that has shown improved performance of Uganda’s legislators in the latest report yet to be released fully.

Elly karuhanga

The Chairman of the Board of Governors AFLI, Elly Karuhanga has told journalists in Kampala that since according the reports so far released by AFLI, it can be said that the scorecard assessment of MPs has positively impacted on their performance with the latest scorecard showing that MPs registered remarkable improvement in that assessment.

Karuhanga says now they want to turn the torch to the Judiciary such that they can assess the Judiciary and hopefully their assessment of the Judiciary will help improve the performance of the custodians of justice.

He says that however they are approaching this matter with caution because unlike Parliament, assessing the Judiciary is a very sensitive issue that needs to be done with caution or else it backfires and that is why they have decided to first negotiate with the Judiciary such that they can come up with the best ways of assessing the Judiciary in Uganda.

In country where the judiciary is laden with a heavy case backlog, and as result forcing a number of people to be dissatisfied with its performance, and with several cases of corruption being reported in the judiciary, assessing the institution in the Judiciary will be a welcome development for many Ugandans to rate the 3rd arm of the state.
